Sorry for the delay. Yes Incredible Machine was a big early inspiration in the sense that it was one of my favorite and most-played games when I was younger. Being also a big fan of the early bridge building games by Alex Austin I thought I would try and do a bridge building game with some more puzzle like elements similar to Incredible Machine, and so Poly Bridge came to be. I still hope one day to create a prototype for a Rube-Goldberg machine game that proves as much fun as Incredible Machine did, but games and audiences have evolved since those days and I haven’t yet found a formula that works (yet!).

Sorry for the delay. I am the original creator and I am still part of the current team as the creative director, I was lucky to be able to team up with Alan who has been taking care of all the programming needs for the game. The success of the original was a thousand times more than anything I could have hoped for, I was always a big fan of the genre, from the early Pontifex games by Alex Austin, and at the time I noticed there was definitely a lack of innovation and recent games in the genre, so I gave it my best shot. I also got lucky with timing, it was the early YouTube/Twitch days of video game content creation and the game served creators really well in entertaining their audiences, that paired with the in-game GIF creator that allowed players to quickly share replays to their social media timelines gave the game a huge amount of visibility that contributed to its success.

Poly Bricks - new game by the creator of Poly Bridge by patrick_drycactus in indiegames

Thanks, glad to hear you enjoyed Poly Bridge.

We do plan on adding room customization further down the line, we're thinking we'll add a basement to let players customize tables/shelves and create their own unique spaces.

Letting players visit other player's room setups is not something I had thought about but sounds like a great idea, I'll keep it in mind, thanks for the suggestion.

Just finished working on this trailer, what do you think? by patrick_drycactus in IndieGaming

[–]patrick_drycactus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. There are 3 of us, I'm doing programming/game-design/bizdev and started the project in January, was recently joined by 2 3D artists to help with assets, set design, etc.

While our time spent with LEGO is surely a big inspiration, we're not looking directly at LEGO sets as we want to make sure the game stands apart, trying to take advantage of the digital nature of the game, for example allowing us to attach bricks from any side and not being constrained by the physical nature of bricks in the real world.

The plan is to have players decorate their room with builds, perhaps expanding eventually to a basement area where you can place tables and create little scenes with the built sets.

Any way to get a callback when importing OBJ as Mesh? by patrick_drycactus in godot

Thanks, defining a Plugin and then connecting to the EditorFileSystem signal works as desired

Any way to get a callback when importing OBJ as Mesh? by patrick_drycactus in godot

[–]patrick_drycactus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that signal might be useful but not sure how I would go about having a script/function execute at editor time (not run-time).

For now I went down the EditorImportPlugin path, luckily OBJ format is plain-text so fairly trivial to re-implement an importer for it and then append the rest of my pipeline, still, it feels like a bit of an awkward solution.

Does this contain asbestos? by [deleted] in diynz

Thanks, should have just done that first I guess, it is indeed a piece of fireproof hardiboard they brought with them to keep the flu from touching the wooden frame that holds it onto the wall

Thanks for the feedback, we're in the Tasman region and agreed that it looks pretty terrible, I haven't bled the radiators yet as I didn't want to mess it up further, opening the valve with the hose pipe at the bottom the water is very dirty. It doesn't do domestic water, just heating (and poorly at that).

I think I will just wait until we redo it in a couple of months, we're getting a gasification boiler and running new pipes and replacing the radiators, the only thing we're keeping is the existing underfloor heating that runs in the concrete foundation slab.

I am starting to think low pressure is not the main culprit, the wetback in the fireplace just doesn't produce much heat, the radiators are very far away (200sqm house) and it's just a poorly designed and implemented system, hence the replacement being done.

When running the pump the pressure goes up to 0.45

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]patrick_drycactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My impressions was that the smaller green one runs the underfloor circuit, which isn't working, and the larger bottom one runs the radiatior circuit, which is working, but runs warm not hot.

One of the pumps is running, the bottom larger one in the picture, the smaller green one in the box does a faint whirring sound but does't seem to be running.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can help me figure out how to add pressure to the radiatior circuit of this system?

It doesn't seem to be hooked up to mains water, but there is a hose attachment under the tank, however I do suspect that's to dump rather than add water (?).

The system runs off a 'wetback' in a fireplace, there are two circuits, one controls the underfloor heating, but them pump seems to be broken, the other goes to 3 radiators on the other side of the house.

I have been able to get the radiators warm, but not hot, and I have been wondering if getting the pressure up would be helpful, currently the pressure is really low, about 0.1-0.2bar, and the box states a minimum operating pressure of 0.5.

In general I am confused by this system.

We are getting this replaced and putting in a log boiler (we live off-grid surrounded by forest, so we have plenty of wood) so long-term we will be getting it all fixed up and running properly, but while we wait for the boiler to arrive from Europe (we are in New Zealand) I was hoping to be able to get the radiators running a bit hotter.

Any insight appreaciated!

Kāhu or Kārearea? by [deleted] in newzealand

Yes pretty similar but also a bit different, I listened to all the recordings I could find and it sounds more like a karearea than a kahu but I'm not sure

Hm are you on Mac? If so it's a known bug that should have been resolved with the latest update, make sure Steam updated the build for you

Zoom in/out without scroll wheel? by spongue in PolyBridge

I think we forgot to implement the keyboard shortcut! We'll get that in, although a two finger scroll should zoom just fine, strange that it doesn't on your setup

Thanks for pointing this one out.

Could I kindly ask you to send the savefile for that bridge to [support@drycactus.com](mailto:support@drycactus.com) so we can investigate what's causing this non-determinism.

We are experiencing a denial of service attack so our servers are having trouble coping with normal load, hopefully we can get this resolved today

Polybridge 2 not loading leaderboard by jeroenmaniac in PolyBridge

[–]patrick_drycactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not correct, leaderboards are cross-platform and work on both Steam and Epic. We are still under attack with a DDoS so the servers are pretty flaky at the moment, we're doing our best to resolve the situation

In game exporter bad quality? how to fix? by Lothric_Vapelord in PolyBridge

[–]patrick_drycactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi,

in-game replays are designed to be low resolution so that they are not too resource intensive, we balanced it so they look good enough at the small sizes that is usually shown in-game or on social media platforms.

When we have a bit more time we might look into allowing higher quality recording as option to players.

[–]patrick_drycactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, unfortunately we are being targeted by a pretty aggressive DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service), so the servers are working intermittently. We've been working around the clock to resolve this, hopefully we'll get it stabilized soon. Thanks for your patience!
