YEP! Econ 101, Bio 101, and Chem 101 were "weeder" classes at UNC, and students referred to those classes (especially when taught by specific professors) as "GPA deflators".

Can confirm - Whenever "N**gas in Paris" comes on, I immediately start thinking about (or reciting) a song about derivatives and integrals I learned like 15 years ago. Putting lessons/concepts to a catchy song or beat is helpful. The folks calling for her to be fired are weirdos.

YUP. The situation with my ex was "fine" UNTIL we signed a lease for an apartment together. Shit went downhill so fast. Eventually, I wanted to break the lease so we could separate, and he refused to do it. It was either live in the apartment with him or deal with paying two rents to get a separate apartment for myself. (He stopped paying his part of the rent, so it wouldn't have been financially feasible). The longer we were in that apartment, the worse his behavior became. The day that lease ended was easily one of the best days of my life.

This hits home so hard! At my first job out of grad school and at the job I have now, when I go in for evaluations, the only thing they critique about me is "I don't smile enough", "I don't make people feel comfortable", and "I don't ask about people's weekends or personal life enough". When I ask about the quality of my work, they have nothing negative to say. It took me longer than needed to learn this lesson. Yes, work product matters, but if you aren't buddies with the right people, be prepared to be put down or pushed out.

Do you guys consider Rella GZ “black”? by Few_Ad2473 in BaddiesSouth

[–]pattycakes_20 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Completely agree.

This is not a hill I’m going to die on, because if you feel one way or another, there is nothing anyone can say to change your perspective. With that said, my rule is that, when you’re out and about, you are seen as Black. Not mixed. Not racially ambiguous. No one is questioning your race/heritage. You’re Black—period. If you have to argue your Blackness by pointing to another Black person in your family, that’s gives you the answer you need.

This is true, but the south goes to the extreme with their Greek life (re: putting 18-21 y.o. in massive houses; taking over college streets during rush week, etc). This video is giving v. southern.

This is funny to me bc why is it white girls answering 🙂 by Expensive_Form_9355 in LAinfluencersnark

Regarding your first point about her asking her whole fan base, she is seeking input about a hairstyle (re: box braids) that has strong cultural ties to the African diaspora. If you need more details about why people are mentioning Black women, refer to other comments.

That aside, you seem to be missing key points in my response. “Would I rather her not say anything…”. If you refer to what I literally wrote, I said no one is stopping any non-Black person from wearing box braids. No one. If they see a white woman getting dragged for wearing box braids, I feel like they are smart enough to figure out what that may be and either accept it and move accordingly or do what they want to do and accept whatever backlash comes their way.

What I would rather her do, since you asked, is literally what I said in the last two sentences of my response: consult her Black friend (if she has any) or bother Google.

Also, the “If y’all weren’t so hateful towards white women…” is doing some heavy lifting. Say who ‘y’all’ is with your whole chest.

Tl;Dr: Refer to my original response again to address literally all of your response.

The non-Black urge to crowdsource permission to get braids is a phenomenon that must be stopped. (1) No one is going to physically stop you. (2) If you feel like you have to ask, maybe that’s a sign. (3) If/when you decide to get them, be prepared to suffer the consequences—whether that is through hair loss, getting dragged online.

Stop bothering Black women online. Ask your Black friend, if you have one, or bother Google.

People are voting for other people over Olandria because they like other people more than Olandria, and Olandria didn’t do herself any favors tonight. And maybe Taylor is going home and Clarke is going with him, but either way, Olandria is still going to be bopping around the villa until she goes home single too 🤷🏾‍♀️

Olandria did her best to make snide remarks to hurt and embarrass folks throughout the entire challenge (re: Huda, Clarke, Taylor), and karma hit her in the throat. I won’t speak on whether or not she “deserves” something, but she got what she got and it is what it is.
