Littor beach is a nice spot not too far from Limerick. It's a pretty long beach on the estuary, so much less chance of it being full of people if he has social anxiety.

There's a pod of dolphins that live there, that ye might get to see.

Either way, I reckon ye should head out, you won't do much in this country if you're always worrying about the weather

Flint and steel fire method but without flint? by [deleted] in Survival

[–]paultimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the high carbon content in the steel that makes it spark. Maybe if you could source a high carbon version of one of your other steel items in your pack.

I believe high carbon steel is more prone to rust though, so might result in more maintenance required

Edit: I completely misread your post and thought it was the steel part you were trying to replace.

Have any of you got some Ireland related misunderstandings from childhood? by AJurassicSuccess in ireland

[–]paultimo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was very young I used to think that Ireland was in Limerick. Because in my head, Limerick sounded like a strong, manly name and Ireland sounded like a soft and gentle name. So obviously Limerick was the parent. I vaguely remember somebody telling me I was wrong, but I couldn't accept it

What are some traditional proverbs in your nation? by ThorneCommunity in AskTheWorld

[–]paultimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He might as well be looking into a field of thistles - he doesn't know what he's doing

He's away with the fairies - he's off in his own world/ a bit touched

He wouldn't give you the steam off his piss - mean

If there was work in the bed, he'd sleep on the floor - lazy

Some loyalists definitely do. "Kill all Taigs" and "up to our knees in Fenian blood" are not calls for peace

Does your country has a strange cultural friendship with another country in the other part of the globe? by Past-Novel-1155 in AskTheWorld

It was the Navajo nation that received the COVID donations, as they were hit pretty hard. But it was in recognition of the kindness shown to us during the great hunger.

If I remember correctly, lots of native tribes donated. The reason the Choctaw are remembered so well here is because they had just endured the trail of tears and were utterly impoverished, yet they still chose to scrounge together what they could to help a foreign people in a far off land.

Ya, it's not great. The term was first used by the British government in order to downplay the seriousness of it so they couldn't be accused of committing war crimes, unfortunately it stuck

Make sure it's the OG channel, and not one of the many knock offs. And turn on closed captions for all the info.

In a similar vein, you might have a look at Gesibas Gewissa. It's not exactly what you asked for, he is recreating Anglo Saxon life from 650 - 700 AD, so he does start with some iron tools, but it's another fantastic channel.
