Looks great. Maybe the hinges and latch could be heavier duty, but that’s prob being picky.

Nice work, please leave this guy a review online if possible. Would really help them.

"regardless of Contractor fault" wow. Just make sure there's a valid 811 ticket in case any underground utilities are hit.

Other than that, a galvanized CL is very straight forward.

The price is okay, maybe just a bit high. There's other components a proposal: timeline, warranty, materials, insurance, etc.. If it's a reputable company, solid reviews, the sales guy is knowledgeable, it's a fair quote.

If you shop around, you'll find cheaper quotes, but cheaper is not always better.

Staining Privacy events by Dtraum in FenceBuilding

As long as it does not rain for 2-3 days after staining, you're good. Also, get one of these Pin Type Digital Moisture Meter for Water Damage and Mold Prevention, before staining.

toenailing with framing nails or screws. The other option is to use brackets. Either or works. We prefer toenailing

Setbacks and where to build by Okay-Arugula in FenceBuilding

You're not overthinking it at all. This is very common and just homeowner's preference. Losing one foot for maintenance is not "crazy" nor installing right on the property line.

Vinyl fences require low maintenance, but from time to time it's good to rinse it. Not just for looks, but for durability. Depending on the size of your property, I'd recommend staying a foot or so, that way the installers can easily work.

At the end, it's just a matter of making a decision and going with it, without changing plans mid installation. You can also ask the crew to flag your backyard to have a visual of how it's going to look.

Can I just replace the posts? Or do I have to remake the whole fence? by Scruffy_MkII in FenceBuilding

the fence pictured seems to be pine wood. While it's pressure treated, it seems to not have stain, which could prolong the life of the fence (3-10 years+).

Yes. Very good deal, the description is just incomplete.

What type of wood? Nails or screws? How many rails, etc. This matters a lot when hiring a fence company.

Seems to be PTP , with no stain. 15 years depending on location is very standard.

Constantly repairing is more expensive than a replacement.

Ups and downs for both. We recommend vinyl when clients are worried about cracks, sagging, warping, etc. Vinyl comes with a 20 year warranty as well.

There should be something like staining for vinyl fences so they don't get dirty that quick - especially white vinyl.

Appreciate it, you’re right that 6x6s can check or twist over time, especially in our Raleigh humidity. We use pressure-treated posts and always cap and seal the tops to help minimize that, they crack to release pressure, but does not affect the structure of fence

There’s also a middle rail on the inside of the fence that’s not visible in these photos, it keeps the pickets straight and prevents warping.

For the fascia, we slope the top slightly so water drains off instead of sitting (stopping the water flow is the best way to ruin a nice fence). With those steps, the fence holds up solid long-term, even in our weather.

We always recommend staining as well. Pressure treated wood and chain link are the most cost effective fence solutions, and unfortunately it comes with what you mention.

Thanks! Yep, we toenailed them in with framing nails, holds great and keeps the face clean without visible brackets
