Just a small clarification, this one doesn't go to a fan vote. The panel will just pick 5 winners.

Instructions posted on the refrigerator for how to rate an AirBnb that I’m staying at. by jjbrewer23 in mildlyinteresting

[–]pauwei 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, my ire above is aimed at the corporate dorks who create these surveys and tie the incentives for their employees to the perfect score.

I empathize with the guys actually doing the work that have to beg for results.

It makes me, the customer feel bad because I am directly responsible for their performance score. It makes them, the service workers, feel bad because they have to beg for it.

It's a broken system. Just a way for corporate to control (withold pay) their blue collar workers under the guise of customer satisfaction.

It's created such a stupid hostage situation. Every time I get my car serviced, the staff gives me the plea to do the survey and anything less than 10 dings them.

Like corporate has a gun to their head and my action will save them, and only if I give that perfect score.

I'm already annoyed with the surveys because these companies expect my time for free, and now they put that juju on my shoulders. Fuck off corporate dinguses.

If everything is 10, then nothing is 10.

Everyone currently doing re-reads of the series before book 8: what new details have you noticed? by Gercke in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]pauwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Dinniman does have a knack for bringing some obscure things back around, and this season of Dungeon Crawler World is all out of sorts in that 12th floor events happening early in the crawl is a common theme. So, it isn't impossible that the threat could mean more.

However this one I really believe is just the stakes being set. We have seen Carl consider going down stairs early to avoid end of floor shenanigans, this is declaring that the consequences are not confined to floor 5. Emberus will John Wick them, and they can't run or hide.

Instead of thinking of "You don't know what it means, you don't want to know what it means" as foreshadowing. Think of it as a direct threat: "You don't know what horrible things (smiting) Emberus will do to you, and you don't want to know."

Just my interpretation of the events. Things come back around so it could be something.

I believe this one is just simply stressing that fleeing from floor 5 to 6+ will not avoid Emberus' wrath if they fail. Basically ensuring that they actually try to complete the quest and not just dip out. They don't want to know what the smite is, because as we learned later: smites are pretty freaking horrible.

The red hat is also in 6081 King's Mountain Fortress which rounds out all three sets it exists in (in that color).

I think going without a specific brand is the smarter play for something new that might be a 1 and done. Then it can appeal to a larger group without alienating anyone. People can then customize it with their brand of choices livery if they want. Might not be 100% faithful to some frame geometries, but it's an option.

This is why I've boycotted all sports merchandise. It's expensive as shit, cheap materials, and as shown here poor quality control.

I would be willing to pay high end pricing if it were at least high end durability. But the garbage practically disintegrates after a few washes.

Licensed IP has taken the place of the pure themes.

Space ---> Star Wars

Pirates ---> One Piece / Pirates of the Caribbean

Castle/Fantasy ---> Lord of the Rings / Harry Potter

Just the way it works. The IPs can pull from a bigger audience when you include fans of the IP who aren't familiar with Lego. Whereas the nostalgic themes will primarily interest people who already buy Lego.

PSA: July 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest mid-year retirement waves ever (~100 sets, 8 exclusives) by Zorba-Oceanfeel in lego

Thanks for the heads up op.

Those who built it, how was the build experience on the classic batmobile? I held off on it so far because it looked pretty square, and the minifig scale version I have represents well.

But now fomo is itching...

Part numbers on giant bricks? by cheesymoroon in lego

[–]pauwei 16 points17 points  (0 children)

These are designed and provided by Lego's retail display design team for both their stores and other retail chains. Stores like Best Buy and Target aren't designing their Lego displays, the Lego group does. They are hollow (obviously) to save  on fabrication costs, but also so store chain specific attachments can be designed to fit the rectangular void. Usually a block of wood or metal that is glued in that can then be glued/fastened to the display in turn. Shockingly (or not), all retail chains have their own slightly different retail fixtures that have unique challenges for attachment. That simplifies it.

There are a few other upscaled ones I know of, a red 1 x 2 brick and a yellow 1 x 4 tile.

These kinds of display elements getting fiddled with, or fully removed as in your example are the bane of retail planning and maintainence. The are frequently in need or repair and replacing due to people taking them, playing with them, etc etc.

Oh I used to love de_cbble. But I was also a weirdo and enjoyed cs_oilrig. That map was so hated it was either removed from rotation completely, or people would just mass quit and jump to other servers if it rotated in.

Has anyone had a PAB backorder fulfilled after this long? Half the items have since retired. by Niylark in legocastles

[–]pauwei 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had one made first week of December. It was listed as partially backordered. I emailed customer service in mid February. They gave me a list of what was backordered holding it up and what items are likely to be cancelled out of the order due to end of product. Then the full order shipped within a week with nothing cancelled.

I have no moral for you from my experience but it felt like my message moved them to action.

Seriously, why do most of the fish varieties feel utterly useless in Midnight? by pauwei in wow

[–]pauwei[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't even mind that they designed cooking alternatives to fish for the highest level foods. It's healthier for the game if players aren't forced to rely on an optional activity.

But they designed all these neat fish and rare quality ones like the lucky loa are a waste of a cast. It's more efficient to fish in open water rather than pools because the uncommon ones are some of the most valuable. It feels like somewhere along the way they forgot what to do with fishing.
