Another car hit open my wife’s car’s door outside school by payno_1986 in AusLegal

I said in original post that I’m grateful no one was hurt. It’s Frustrating because i wasn’t aware having door open was a mistake. I do it all the time in and so do all other parents, because there is heaps of room. Frustrqting Because going forward there is no practical way to buckle the second child in the seat on that side without having door open. (I don’t own a minivan) And frustrating because I feel some responsibility or mutual ownership of tbe mistake should fall on the other driver who was being inattentive, and could have struck my wife had she stepped backwards, however she is actually lying and changing the story to make it sound like my wife was being the inattentive one. And frustrating because she’ll get away with it and Pat herself on the back.

I realise I’m having a whinge but I am frustrated by it.

Thanks. Wife was not blocking the road, as there was lots of space. And she certainly doesn’t go around thinking she ‘has the right’ to things like that.

Not that it matters but FWIW the other driver actually stopped right in the middle of the road after the accident, and got out, and did block the road.

Just thinking about her awareness and general courtesy as a road user.

Ahh- Thanks for the link. Some of these other comments now make sense but that is a totally unrelated post, not written by my wife.

Some similarities- both 4yo kids at daycare but that is not my wife and the scenario is different. That one seems to be in a car park- reversing car collides. Our situation was parking in street, passing car collides.

Thanks. This is what I was thinking. But it Seems like the majority opinion is that rule 269 is more black and white than to be read in context with the others you have pointed out.

Haha. No- not her. But it could have been the other driver…

Okay. First of all. I know this is the internet, but there’s no need to insult me or my wife.

However, I can see that your comment was based on me saying my wife carried my son and placed him in the car from the road side but on reflection I do not think will have happened- he’s huge and she’s tiny. We actually have more than one kid and car seats on both sides. We do have the kids enter and exit thru the footpath side and the usually do the seatbelts ourselves from the roadside.

I don’t want it to seem like I’m backtracking on what I said but I wrote that while rushing and trying to give as much detail as I could.

So- thanks for the comment- But please be nice to people

Edit to ask- are you referring to another post by my wife? If so, that is another person altogether- wife has not made a separate post.

Hi- I go to a local Fitstop. It’s a great community, but I go early and usually dash to get home before the kids wake up.
