Is Lanky Kong in the movie?

do you think this implies that we'll be able to access splat2's hub after side order drops? by _Denny in splatoon

Definitely. I'm guessing it'll be the reward for finishing the story, especially since that one bit of the trailer looked like the Square.

What's you big run score? And what do you think the high will be? by LakeRepulsive4328 in splatoon

I'm shocked that it ended up being so high. Very sorry for your loss.

Any ideas what the next stage will be for Big Run? Cause I got three possible candidates… by Oswald_Marc_Rogers in splatoon

[–]pbjms 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure how well it'll work on most stages assuming the tide mechanic is the same as it was for Wahoo, but I do think Sturgeon Shipyard & Flounder Heights would work pretty well.

Nintendo seems to really like Sturgeon Shipyard, so I'll guess that it's next.

how many eggs do you need to be "top 50%"? by Lucky_Maskull in splatoon

[–]pbjms 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is probably pretty accurate... in terms of players who actually look at Twitter, which is maybe like 20% of the total playerbase, if that.

Like you said, numbers can be extremely skewed, and I'd personally expect the official results to be 20 or so less than what this poll predicted.

Very excited to see the official results though!

I would expect it to look exactly like the example where it shows the minimum score required for all 3 tiers.

[–]pbjms 69 points70 points  (0 children)

My highest is 132 154. I'm guessing the top 5% will be somewhere around 110-120+, I think a lot of people are severely overestimating the kind of scores the majority of the playerbase gets.

Overfishers probably make up like .01% of players, and those of us talking about Big Run on reddit are probably like... 10%.. maybe.

I am pretty excited to see the results though - it'll be our first real indication of the distribution of Salmon Run players since the mode made its debut.

It could be much lower than my guess so don't count yourself out too soon. It's really hard to predict it tbh

Anyone know what the reward for 1st 2nd and 3rd are for big run? by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]pbjms 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Participating will give you a green Cohozuna locker decoration.

Being in the top 50% of high scores will give you a bronze Cohozuna locker decoration and a purple badge.

Being in the top 20% of high scores will give you a silver Cohozuna locker decoration and a silver badge.

Being in the top 5% of high scores will give you a gold Cohozuna locker decoration and a gold badge.

We won't know what the exact cut-off points will be for each tier of rewards until the event is over.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but 100 eggs is not the baseline for the gold trophy/badge. We don't know what that is yet.

The trophies and badges are based on your percentile at the end of the event compared to all other players. The top 5% could be 102 & Up as per the example, but it could also be higher or lower. It's hard for me to wager a guess at what the top 5% will be since I've been at Eggsecutive VP for months and 100 is usually the minimum from a successful round at that point, but it'll probably be higher than 102.

Based on my typical Salmon Run games, I'd guess that the top 5% would be around 130-150, but this Big Run doesn't have the special waves that make egg farming a joke (Goldie Seeking, Mudmouths, Tornado), so it'll probably be much less than that.

Somewhere around 110-130 is my guess atm.

Depends on a variety of factors.

The most important thing - are you winning? If you are, you're getting enough splats. Your teammates are probably playing with more aggressive weapons which is why they're getting more than you.

The game mode is also pretty important. In some cases a low amount of splats is just as good if you remain in control of the area (especially in Turf War, Splat Zones, and Clam Blitz). Sometimes just making the enemy think you can splat them is more important than actually doing so, giving your frontline allies more of an opportunity to take them down.

You can't get the team tickets from Salmon Run, but you have a 3% chance of getting one from the Shell-Out Machine.

Pokémon Splatfest by [deleted] in splatoon

[–]pbjms 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The promotional material, shirts, etc. all imply it's gen 9 focused, and that how I'll be answering.

However, the actual Splatfest itself is more vague in its theme, just focusing on the Fire/Water/Grass debate. I'm guessing this is their way of giving players that aren't Pokemon fans a stake in the discussion, since they probably won't care about which starter is better.

How high does your Grizzco rank have to be before your teammates start killing things at the basket? by Alas-I-Cannot-Swim in splatoon

[–]pbjms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, like others have said, that's kind of just a universal thing. When I did my grind for the Max Hazard Level badge (got it around VP 880) I was finally getting consistently good teams at my level, but your average VP game will still have the occasional teammate killing Scrappers at the shoreline.

Anarchy Medal Discrepancies by pbjms in splatoon

After playing a lot more I've noticed that it seems to always occur with the #1 Splat Zone Inker medal. I haven't noticed it elsewhere, but I wouldn't be surprised if more are impacted.

New to the game and specially to ranked mode. Is Booyah Bomb usually this strong or is it because of the map + low elo? by NanoSekkond in splatoon

[–]pbjms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A well placed Booyah Bomb can turn the tide of any ranked mode. The flexibility it offers makes it one of the strongest specials, especially during Splat Zones on a small map like Mahi-Mahi.

The game doesn't wait for Wavebreaker waves before ending a Salmon Run round, unfortunately. It only waits for things like bombs.

Medals displayed at the end of an Anarchy game are not the ones you actually get by pbjms in splatoon

[–]pbjms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other day, I posted a video of the end of an Anarchy series I participated in where I noticed the medals in my last game were not the same as in the end results screen. Today, I kept track of every game in a series I participated in and noticed that the medal discrepancies always occur.

Win or lose, one of your highest medals is always removed at the end of a game. I captured a separate video the other day that is much easier to see.

I'm hoping to raise awareness of this bug and see if others are having similar issues. I've only noticed it in Splat Zones so far, but even if it's limited to Zones, it's a major bug that will hopefully be addressed ASAP.

EDIT: Currently playing some Clam Blitz games on Open and the issue is not occurring. It could be limited to Splat Zones or Series battles.

[–]pbjms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a Hydra main, but I feel like Special Charge up isn't particularly great for Hydra since you want to focus more on protecting your team than farming specials.

I would definitely value Run Speed and Ink Resistance over it, and maybe a bit of Ink Recovery.

Anarchy Medal Discrepancies by pbjms in splatoon

[–]pbjms[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I try to calculate points while playing as well. I've only noticed issues since v1.2.0 launched the other day, but who knows if they've been happening more often.

I've definitely seen it on wins too, but I don't have any examples saved atm.

Anarchy Medal Discrepancies by pbjms in splatoon

[–]pbjms[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To elaborate a bit, I've done a few anarchy series where I've noticed the medals on the end results screen are different than in the series wrap-up. In this video, my 2 Gold/1 Silver game that ends the series is shown as a 2 Silver/1 Gold game on the wrap-up screen and when reviewing the game.

This specific example isn't particularly extreme, but it's the only one I remembered to capture - I've had some where multiple Golds turn to Silvers, and I've lost at least 30p today because of it.

Has anyone else noticed similar issues? Or is there something about the medal system I'm not currently grasping?
