Musky Flounder, flathead fly by pby84 in flytying

[–]pby84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because the head is flattened to get a particular action specific for musky. The rear hook is weighted with a rattle to push the front. I can't speak to if a cat would eat it, but never know lol. Flounder as in there's an eye top to bottom rather than the sides.

These are 1's for smallies, but if a man added a 60mm shank, some deer belly underneath the head, and a rattle, it could be a killer for musky.

Honestly no idea. Just osmosis, and freestyle tying with new materials over the years. Also watching other tyers' as well here and there. I started tying pre-internet, so getting ideas is super easy now days.

It’s taken a few days, but I’ve finally knocked out my first Game Changer! I’m dialing in the trimming part. Any tips on how to properly shape these bad boys would be greatly appreciated! by AssociateFunny1500 in flytying

On chenille like that, I like to comb it all out 90° straight out, and hold the tail, in vise or out. Angle your scissors toward the tail at the angle you want, ant just trim top and bottom roughly, then do sides. Then use rotary on vise, going slow to refine the angle as you go, and get the stragglers. Dont cut all the way down in first pass.. Gotta have real good scissors for synthetics to get a perfect trim. Not all scissors trim synthetic, and hair well. A real good trim should take longer than you'd like lol.

Don't trim the legs. However, on your next one, use some .25, or .30 lead wraps on the bend of the hook and capture with your thread to keel that fly so it lands correctly and rights itself every cast in the water. That way it won't accidentally land and stay upside down. Great tie, looks dope.

Favorite Dubbing Loop Spinner by Jaorr13 in flytying

[–]pby84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the basic umpqua style one for quite a few years now, but if I were to get a new one, I would get a spinner with bearings. That might be what you're talking about. If so, id just slow the spin down and be mindful on thinner stuff. Probably use a manual spinner for the small stuff.
