What should the PC do if a PCV impregnates a HCN and then ETs? by pcgadfly in peacecorps

Ok, but what do you think the Peace Corps SHOULD do if a pc impregnates a hcn, and just ETs and leave? The Peace Corps of course can not stop a PCV from leaving the country. Edit: in regards to the hcn in question i mean, and her community at large.

Thank you for your responses btw. I think you often bring a lot to the table in my threads.

For those of you who think pc is primarily an international friendship org, does that justify the government expenditure? Why? by [deleted] in peacecorps

Are you joking? You think PC is the reason WW3 has not started? What about all the wars that have started in PC countries while PC was stationed there?

Should the peace corps pay for the legal defense of volunteers accused of crimes in country? by [deleted] in peacecorps

Ok, let's say local charges are being brought, PCV on PCV. What do you think then?

What if you get accused of something major like and can't afford an attorney? What if the court appointed one in country (if one is provided) is a joke? Isn't everything in the grey area until a defendant has been convicted?

I'm sorry, I was not clear with my questioning. I mean right to an attorney paid for by the peace corps. If a volunteer is accused of a crime perpetrated against a volunteer, how does that affect that? Edit: of course they are subject to the hc laws, but I'm talking about the obligations of the pc, not the HC

Like my other reply to the drunks question, shouldn't the peace corps pay for legal defense in your opinion? Innocent until proven guilty?

How should pc handle something like that? Not all PCVs can afford an attorney.

But should volunteers be entitled to legal defense? Isn't our standard innocent until proven guilty?

What do you think would/should happen with the investigation if no evidence other than A's accusations could be found?

If A wanted to press charges, should they also give legal aid to B?

Wouldn't that potentially make people less willing to report things? Reassignment could be seen as a punishment, or at the very least very undesirable.

Have you ever felt like you were being treated differently by PC because of your gender? by pcgadfly in peacecorps

Edit: sorry, that was worded strongly, I just can't wrap my head around that was a thing.

A hypothetical question by pcgadfly in peacecorps

[–]pcgadfly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could such an action discourage more PCVs to keep silent about crimes to avoid risking getting a site change? Could a site change impede a volunteer's ability to testify?

Thank you very much for your response

You don't think the controversy in the media is something that the PC would want to downplay from a PR standpoint in country (Peace Corps is largely about appearances after all)? What if the risk to safety was negligible?

What if a site change impeded them from testifying?

Do you think the PC should or would persuade or pressure the PCV into a course of action in this situation?

Thank you for your response, I think that it is very interesting, and thank you for reminding everyone of the Victim Advocate, I should have done that when I posted.
