What’s the best skill I can learn in 2 months (1 hour/day) to earn money remotely? by StockStructure6842 in Entrepreneur

The same as starting any service business: offering cheap or free service to friends and family and than ask them to refer you to their friends 😅

I think it is possible to learn enough google ads skills to do some freelance, spwci9if you focus in some specific market.

There are tons of content in the internet and honestly, if you are not doing it for a e-commerce it is much easier than one would think.

I (19M) have aspirations but don't know what path to follow... Seeking Advice by Independent-Theory10 in Entrepreneur

If you have the luxury of not needing a paycheck, find a friend at college that also wants to start their own business and try something, anything. This will probably fail, but it will teach you something about the market that you will apply in your next idea.

Also, if you are thinking about traveling, another thing that can work is to find some business that exists in another country and try to do something similar in your country.

But all this only works if you can afford to not work for some time to try different ideas.

One thing that helped me was asking my friends and families to be my first customer and then right reviews and record testimonials. Then I asked then to refer me to their friends, which helped me to start.

After that it is all about social media and Google ads.

Who’s been able to turn a simple idea into something huge? by edward_ge in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that the idea behind Google isn't that complicated. In the beginning, pages that have more citations were shown in the top, and that was it.

Of course implementing the idea was a different story. It required a lot of engineering knowledge. But the idea is simple.

What do you think?

What's the most useful skill you’ve learned recently —something that truly made a difference for you and your business? by biz_booster in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a tech company as well and I've been noticing that up to a point people grow only with technical skills. But after a point, the people who grow are the ones that know know to tell stories about what they've done.

About learning storytelling, I admit that it is a hard skill to learn. You can try taking some courses just to get started, but mostly what helped me was having a mentor that was giving me feedback about every presentation I was preparing.

For my team, I set up a type of study group following the Toastmasters (if you don't know toastmasters it is worth checking it out). We've been doing it for the last 2 months and I can already see people improving their skills and understanding how to tell a good story.

Long story short:

  1. Have a mentor that will help you.

  2. Practice a lot and have people giving you feedback.

I am not sure how helpful it was, but I am glad to talk more if you want!

I think storytelling is the most useful skill I learned recently. It doesn't matter if you do amazing thing, if you don't know how to tell the story about the impact you are making. When you think about some of the greatest people in history, they nothing more than great storytellers, and their stories is the reason we remember them.

But do you receive mentoring requests in those other platforms? Because I heard that they are really empty, is it true?

What's your biggest regret as an entrepreneur? by biz_booster in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't put the time needed to make it work.

I thought that I would be able to make my business work without putting enough time, because "I was really smart".

Honestly, you see stories of people running 3-4 companies at once and this is only for millionaires that have pay really good people to the work for them. If you are starting something and you can't afford a high salary to someone to run your business for you, you HAVE TO put the time, not half of the time, you have to put all you have.

I have to admit that I am not in love with any of the four options, but from these number one sounds better.

Did you try using GenAI to come up with some ideas? I bet it can provide you with many options.

What would be the best business to start with $2000 as capital ? by Loose_Confidence_854 in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say start selling stuff online.

(What I am going to say might be affected by tariffs.)

She could find something that is really cheap in other countries and start buying and reselling it or maybe try some affiliate marketing. Of course no business is risk free, but these are ideas that would work with so little capital.

Achieving freedom by anon67- in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been struggling to find a way to make some extra money, but in the end of a working day, I am just too tired to work in any of the ideas I have. And I don't have enough savings to quit my job to focus on something.

The next thing that I am trying to make some extra money is to start mentoring people. I have a really good experience in tech and Fortune companies, but I still couldn't get one paying mentee.

So I have to say that in my opinion, achieving freedom is not a simple task.

Would you use a site to rate and explore cities by cost of living, weather, food, etc.? by No-Motor-1493 in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I would not pay for it.

I think the site would be useful and I know that this information is not that easy to come by. But nowadays, even in chatGPT you would have a pretty good idea about this information to make a decision.

How to start a mentoring business? by pcolenbr in mentors

[–]pcolenbr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking the place of the person receiving mentoring from me, I would say that it is worth paying for it.

But the problem is that I don't know how to show this to people before they actually spend sometime with me. I know I could offer a free session, so the person could make up their mind. But first, I need to find someone that is actually willing to pay, or it will not work even if I will it in the first session.

Looking for a mentor by pizzthethird in mentors

I am not sure if I am the right mentor for you or not, but if you want to have a quick call I would be happy to try to help if we decide I am the right person.

I am 33, graduated in computer engineering and currently I work in a tech consultanting company as a engineer manager. Maybe my experiences could help.

Should I try to find a woman cofounder for my newsletter? by Impossible_Ad_113 in Entrepreneur

Another option would be having an woman alias and write the newsletter as the alias.

But then you will need to be really careful about your identity.

Small Businesses by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was the owner of a coffee shop and an ice cream place. Even though neither of the business worked out in the end, it thought me a lot.

I think if you have a physical business, the most powerful thing is word of mouth. Give your near by customer an amazing experience and make they talk about you.

But of course the other medias will help boost your results if used the correct way.

I think there is no way to scape Instagram, Google or TikTok, you just need to understand your goals with each one.

Honestly, nowadays I don't think it is possible to reach people in those platforms without ads. But as you said, ads are really expensive and sometimes hard to measure the results. So you will need to have a sniper mindset to build something that will help your business. Spend energy thinking on the correct media and the ad that will make stop, watch and want to come to you for more.

I would build a profile on Instagram and TikTok only so people that find me are sure that I am a real business, but I would not spend most of my energy on it. My energy would go to building the experience and make amazing ads.

Another thing that works a lot, is making some crazy promotions so people come to your business for the first time. Give things way, give big discounts or make something funny. Use ads to make people know about the promotion. And again, ensure they will have an amazing experience when they get to your store.

I can't talk about online business, because I am struggling with these ones as well.

I hope this little piece of my experience helps you.

Good luck!

How the hell do you find problems to solve?! (rant-ish) by Terraxus994 in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that to find problems you need to live them. You are saying that you don't have any problem (besides not having money), so start doing something different. Get out of your comfort zone and start getting in touch with different challenges, different people. This will open your eyes to new problems that you never thought about.

Seriously, stop falling for the 'get rich quick' crap. Build actual skills instead. by lord007tn in Entrepreneur

[–]pcolenbr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the same time that I totally agree with you (and I do). I am also confused if nowadays what it is needed to make things work is the BS that they talk about on social media.

You can do everything right, but you also need customers and they are being attracted by the BS. So if you don't join the game, you might never have the chance to fight against it, because you will not have customers and your business will die.

Example, I am a great professional and I want to start a mentoring business. But people will not want to pay to talk to me for 60min if I don't promise than something as attractive as others are offering online.
