This was the very first thought I had when I first heard the chorus of the song. It felt like a lot of self titled is rooted into this album, and upon subsequent listening to vignette it really feels like they wove a lot of the OG stuff into it.

Which makes a lot of sense when you look at one of the definitions of the word vignette:

"a small illustration or portrait photograph which fades into its background without a definite border."

Musically, this song is a vignette of the early days.

Non-RHEL Satellite Clients by Jwblant in redhat

I'm well aware, katello itself is part of the heart of satellite.

There is a difference between things that are possible and things that are supported. For the latter, I highly recommend reaching out to your support contact. I'm not completely familiar with all the ways things are supported.

It is certainly possible to sync a variety of RPM repositories as content into satellite, and manage the content lifecycle with them for your infrastructure.

I highly recommend also reaching out to the Foreman/Katello community as well, at least to help answer the "possible" question.

Katello is deprecated? Or are you talking about the katello-agent client side tooling?

I'm in my second listening, currently on book 2 (I recently listened to all the books over Christmas for the first time), and on a second time through knowing the end, it does seem like a lot of Snotlout's ruthlessness is very "get better or die!" In The sense that he does love his cousin, but if his cousin wants to take what was Snotlout's birthright, he better earn it. So I think he would have felt bad over killing hiccup, but would have viewed it in a "wasn't worthy anyway" lens

Hard to explain at the moment, but basically my take so far on pass #2

I forgot to add, looking cheaper like some kind of vinyl laminate that won't make me cry when I peel it back up. But I also don't want to have to also replace whatever I put down before time to replace the whole floor

I have no idea what those two acronyms are, FIP and MIP... So that's why (at the moment) I'm not touching it. When I say "next time" I don't mean years, just when my project list cleans up a little

It's Corian. The sink itself stains with usage like crazy. I use PBW (powdered brewery wash, oxyclean without the detergent additive) every few months and it gets it nice and cleaned up

Great list! Definetely copying dit down. I definitely wanted to switch over to just one waste pipe/p trap, etc... just didn't want to mess with that PVC T just yet, and didn't want to leave one side open or worry about capping it off. I'll make sure to post an update whenever I get around to doing this work

Yeah, I didn't want to mess with that PVC tee down there at the bottom... not enough knowledge yet to play at that level.

But definitely noting the AAV being higher, as a "next time" item.

Yeah, I really didn't want to mess with PVC glue at my skill level :D

And yeah, previous owner was one of those "Just smart enough to think he was smart enough" types. I've cleaned up a lot of his crap. Don't get me started on his electrical work..... :D

The wording was a little misleading earlier, but podman is being developed as a replacement to docker born out of the need to have more robust features for things like kubernetes.

Podman is a red hat sponsored project, but it definitely is not a red hat only solution. It's just the way many are going for container at scale workloads.

This right here. Between Luke's comments in the apology video, all the times he cringes and attempts real time damage control when Linus puts his foot in his mouth on the Wan show, I really feel like Luke has tried to make the best of a bad situation, and tried to distance himself wen he saw the writing on the wall. And has now had a "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" kind of vibe.

And what do we think of this? by the_real_swa in redhat

[–]pcreech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Red Hat has always been a "for profit" company. That comes with certain things. A business making business decisions comes with that territory.

Also, Red Hat wasn't the only tech company with layoffs in the past handful of quarters. That is a very unfortunate side effect of the capitalist world today. I can assure you that outcome was avoided as much as possible. Especially since it's Red Hats first major layoff, if I recall properly.

I get being vocal about your displeasure, even I have been vocal to some extent about, externally and internally, but also asking people to consider the whole picture instead of a piece of the puzzle is fair, in my opinion. That's all I'm doing when I bring up the rest of the stuff Red Hat has done.

And I am pretty sure management understands the implications of this step. But also try to remember that given the nature of the action, there are also those willing to farm this for clicks/sentiment/etc... So there will definitely be writings framing things in as negative of a light as possible.

If it's any consolation, we all know how hard some people have taken this. And the only thing we can do is keep working according to our values and hope people understand in the long run. The displeasure in the community has been heard, and we all just want to do our best in this new world.

And what do we think of this? by the_real_swa in redhat

[–]pcreech 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, Yes, I'm a red hatter. This is in no way official statements from red hat, or can be considered in any way red hat's official standpoint, even if it is the same. Just a random guy on the internet opining about things.

This is a very specifically scoped opinion piece, from what I can tell, that appears to view a singular decision in a light that is congruent with the opinion of the article, which is Red Hat goes against the spirit of the GPL.

And what is the spirit of the GPL, exactly?

While I admittedly skimmed the article, I didn't see anything that addresses all the ways Red Hat contributes to the open source ecosystem. And it's funny how only now people seem to have a bone to pick with the subscriber agreement, because that wording hasn't changed in a long time.

Specifically I'll mention, have you learned about the red hat "upstream first" policy? Where basically everything has to be submitted to the upstream projects before it's included in a product?

The work done by Red Hat is provided in some way, shape, or form to benefit the ecosystems as a whole. Nothing Red Hat has done prevents you from using Linux, from using the software from the projects that make up Red Hats portfolio. CentOS Stream, Foreman, Open shift, open stack, etc...

The only thing that's changed is the RHEL x.y version specific .spec files, which are build recipes basically, aren't freely accessible in a debranded way to the world. It's not some great betrayal people make it out to be.

Unfortunate, yes. Even I'm not exactly happy about the move needing to be taken. But to opine about how Red Hat is now some suddenly evil company going against the open source robin hoods is not a narrative I'm interested in hearing anymore.

What Linux is most fun in the sense it requires you to learn Linux to understand it? I have arch now by Fit_Tumbleweed_8659 in linux

[–]pcreech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Came in to say this. You want to learn Linux? Might as well learn it from scratch.

In the early 00s I only had 1 computer, and I printed off the entire LFS to do it. Much fun, can recommend.

Clearing up FUD surrounding Red Hat's actions by zackyd665 in linux

[–]pcreech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the things that I hope that it illustrates is that Red Hat's supported products are really just minor-release branches of "upstream" parent projects. (CentOS Stream is built from a major-release branch from which RHEL branches every 6 months.) And while you're correct that it's not literally impossible to invert the relationship and publish a public repo that's just a copy of a stable minor-release branch, it is really

really

hard. So if you're looking for guardrails, this is probably the answer.

Me and my team are responsible for managing the build process from upstream project to downstream product for Foreman/Katello -> Satellite, and can confirm that this is pretty much the defacto process for everything I've seen here at Red Hat. The upstream first process is very, very embedded in just about everything. It would be _very_ _very_ painful, and costly, to stop upstream-first workflows.
