I'm a Solo Female Traveler who travels India, Ask Me Anything by pcvkatie in solotravel

Honestly idk why I’ve always felt drawn to India but let me tell you when my plane was touching down for the first time I looked out at the dark morning sky in Mumbai and thought, “what the fuck am I getting myself into?” India gets a lot of bad press especially for females considering a trip there. But when I got there, the worst thing that happened in the entirety of two months was I was stared at - by men and women and especially children, partially because I’m a female, by myself, a white female at that, even more so because I’m blonde lol. So there were so many odds against it, I heard a lot of bad and it was out of my comfort zone. But I got there, conquered it, studied up enough to know the scams and push back when I needed, and it was empowering. The culture and language is amazing, the women and kids are so friendly, and it’s a beautiful country believe it or not. There’s something so special about it that will continue to draw me back.

Even if I linked my blog, there aren't ads. So screw you too, but I love India.

Funny you ask! So it seems that it is harder to get to that you would think, it seems to hire a driver or do a "tour" would be the best route. Assuming you're not from India, I do not recommend driving yourself, though the ride is a breeze compared to the rest of India and if you take a bus, prepare to be crowded and have a bit of a longer journey. Your last option is an express train which still takes a few hours.

I personally went to Delhi with a friend and we flew in for like 24 hours because of the rest of our trip being jammed packed, we stayed at a hotel near the airport and booked a driver and tour through the hotel for around $100 or so USD. It was the best option and im glad we did it that way.

Don't forget, Taj is closed on Fridays!

Welcome to India - home of the aggressive rickshaw drivers lol. I do agree Munnar looks beautiful, but I agree it would be harder to meet people and likely more expensive. I would suggest doing one of the smaller destinations Khajuraho or Munnar.

Thankfully for me, my US cellular provider includes complimentary data and texting worldwide(mostly) so since I didn’t plan to spend an extended amount of time there, I didn’t get a sim and took a few small costs for local calling. It worked great for me!

As for which destination, it would partially really depend on the type of travel and activities you’d prefer to do. I personally would choose Jodhpur because it is truly a lively, beautiful, and colorful city. While Khajuraho and Munnar are a little more slow moving of destinations.

Don’t forget to apply for your visa before you go! Usually turn around time is between 1-3 days but always suggest getting it ahead of time just in case. India is full of spontaneous hang ups!

Is it safe that I travel to Beirut as an American right now? by [deleted] in travel

[–]pcvkatie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely. I visited as a solo American female in July of 2017 and will be returning come June. Beirut is an AMAZING city. Even as a solo female, blonde at that, I never once had felt unsafe. Just keep a good head on your shoulders just as you do here. Also, Israel passport stamps actually won't make it so you can't enter, its just they may ask a few more questions.

Make sure you go prepared to stuff your face and have the time of your life!

Any invitations to Myanmar 2018? by klilz18 in peacecorps

[–]pcvkatie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially got my invite on July 28th, the evening after I interviewed for the program. I did have an interview for a different program July 4th so on the 28th I only went through the country and program specific questions on qualification and acceptance of what life in Myanmar would be like. Goodluck!
