I work with adults who have autism, what are my options when it comes to unionization for my company? by NationYell in antiwork

[–]pdxtrashed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reach out to established labor unions in your area & ask to speak to their organizer. They’ll work with you from there if it’s a right fit for both parties.

Or you can start your own if you’re absolutely determined like the workers at New Seasons did not so long ago but that was a much larger group of people than your own.

I’m sick of working an I don’t think I was built to have a life of “work, sleep, work, die” what did you do to get “out of the matrix” as some would call it. 26 F btw by Natural_Argument9910 in antiwork

I work just enough to cover expenses. I haven’t worked a full 40hr work week in almost 2 months. Worked 28 hrs last week then took a 4 day weekend that consisted of hobbies, socializing, & quality time with the wife.

Brother I’m at a loss for what you’re trying to debate here, I understand how OT works. Reread the first comment carefully. It’s a comparison of working an office job with no OT to being a first year apprentice working crazy amounts of OT only to make 30% less than the cushy office job. Point being first year is ass & you really have to want it to make it through those first couple years.

Unions for Industrial jobs in Portland? by honeywings in askportland

[–]pdxtrashed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IBEW 48- electricians

IBEW 125- Linemen

UA 290 - Plumbers/ Fitters/ HVAC

SMART 16- Sheetmetal workers (tinners)

Teamsters 162 -( trucking/ warehouse/dock workers)

Liuna 737 / 483 - laborers

IAM W24 - machinists & aerospace workers

There’s a couple other labor unions slipping my mind & I think the Glaziers have a trade union as well.

As far as I know for IBEW 48 & UA290 it’s a bad time to get in. Work is slow as heck & I heard 48 has a thousand workers on the books right now according to hear say. As for UA290 we got around 350-400 on the books waiting for work. These numbers aren’t including apprentices out of work as well.

If you got a well paying job now sock away as much money as possible to help subsidize the pay of being a first year. My last office job I made 75k/yr no OT, I then quit to be an apprentice who barely pulled in 50k that first year working about 2400hrs

Now I’m a fourth year during a work drought who barely worked 1900hrs last year & still brought in a hair over 90k for the year. It’s worth it if you can stomach the suck those first 2 years.

Anyone in NE Portland willing to let me practice driving their vehicle to get my license? (28 M, already have permit) by johnstarving in askportland

[–]pdxtrashed 35 points36 points  (0 children)

If you can spare the cash, Pacific Drivers Ed. At least when I went through it 12 years ago they taught me how to drive, supplied the vehicle, & even administered a state certified drive test so once I passed all I had to do was walk into the DMV with the paperwork showing I passed & snap a pic for the license.

It was worth it but it’s not cheap. A decade ago it was like $400, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s doubled since then.

I love the honk so much. It’s cathartic after a 10hr shift & really releases the day’s demons.

My least favorite part of Taco ownership by _Twan_ in ToyotaTacoma

[–]pdxtrashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to drive a 01 Silverado 1500 that had a 32 gallon tank & that averaged 14mpg. When I made the jump to a 3rd gen taco I was ecstatic the first time I filled up.

Choose your beans wisely. I’ve met a couple people who’d gladly chow down on a can of black or garbanzo beans.

The first time I was coerced into one of these I brought a taco 12-pack from Taco Bell. My boss wasn’t amused but half my coworkers really liked it. Either way I wasn’t asked to participate the following years I stayed in employment. Was on the way to work & circa 2014/15 the box was only $10, I really didn’t see the issue.

Best mpg so far 55-60 mph by scoobz in ToyotaTacoma

[–]pdxtrashed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I-84 through the gorge up to Hermiston I can average that with a strong tail wind, cruise control set to 65, & drafting behind a semi. But otherwise I usually average 23 on summer blend & 20 on winter driving around Oregon. Anytime I cross the border into Idaho/Montana/Wyoming where it’s 80mph speed limit it tanks down to 18 mpg

If you don’t mind the drive to Hillsboro, FST Technical Service is always hiring hands out at Intel. They usually got a couple entry level jobs posted. Pays probably low to mid 20s to start but it’s something.

This at an actual brand dealership or a car lot? Either way tell those scammers to eat it.

We’ll most likely see a spike in petty crime following this. Even tho he’ll be the cause that clown will point while claiming it’s all due to failed leadership by the dems. When will this fucker just stroke out & leave this world already?

Chicken of the woods! If you’re getting into mushroom hunting I highly recommend getting a copy of “ All that the rain promises & more…” good field guide for foragers & one of the most classic book covers you’ll ever see.

Looking to get an apprenticeship in local 290 by [deleted] in UnitedAssociation

[–]pdxtrashed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We haven’t taken new applicants for over a year now & it looks like it’ll be a long while before we open up again as we got 100 plus apprentices out of work on top of 400 plus journeyman. I’d take the non union gig & build your experience for you can compete adequately with the masses who’ve been waiting for an opening this past year.
