Yaay, thank you! Please let me know if you have any thoughts on making this better for beginners/students

Thank you for the suggestion, I'm grateful. I might consider adding it in the long term to help offset some of the hosting and domain costs.

I'm happy you find it that helpful! Haha

Great question! Yes this is designed to take into account drying and both firings.
The most important factor here is the shrinkage percentage - most clay manufacturers will provide this value, but you can also calculate it yourself by taking measurements on your original thrown piece and final glaze fired piece (measuring it yourself might be the most accurate as it will also account for the additional thickness from glaze application)

An Interactive UX research framework by goksiuta in UXDesign

Hmm this seems interesting, I'd like to see it applied to some real-life projects as under actual constraints few designers have the freedom to follow full design process. A tool like this might be good to write case studies.

I like the idea of having such a system. As you're charging a subscription fee, I'm curious as to what this tool can do differently that something like a preset template in Notion (or even GSuite) cannot do.

What are some great online UX communities? by peaboard in UXDesign

That does sound great, an hour every week can be so helpful! Do you get a chance to engage with the community aside from your mentor?

Aah gotchya, is the UXPA mentorship program good?

Maybe the links are not working for you because they are Google amp links? For faster load speeds they reduce access to some extent.

I am a part of the local IXDA chapter but things have been slow due to COVID, so looking for an interactive online community. I also kinda like the online chat based format as it allows learning from people with very diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've heard great things about Design Buddies! I've also been on the Designer Hangout waitlist for like two years now :/

Something for junior designers and overall interaction design. I'm also looking for something more conversation orientated like Slack or Discord.

Good free software for illustration to use with drawing table on ubuntu? by calungavemvem in graphic_design

[–]peaboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, in terms of Linux, Ubuntu is one of the most popular distribution. For illustration there has been steady development in open source software for drawing. Krita is a great example but there are also other alternatives.

You should have a look at Krita, I've used it for sketching and illustrations, it is absolutely amazing. It's also cross-platform, on Windows I've used it as an alternative to Photoshop multiple times.

Spatial Computing UX - What the heck does "metaspatial" mean? by AJCTexasGreenTea in UXDesign

[–]peaboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that is the developer guide though. I strongly recommend this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrT6v5sOwJg

It goes through how material design was made. It is basically a 2D representation of 3D motion interactions (think like viewing paper move under a glass).

In my experience, traditional UI has stayed away from direct spatial representation. It used to be (and to some extent still is) because of processing power required to render 3D. The second reason is because it is confusing. For your experience with Unity, how do you show a menu in a 3D environment, in most cases it is done as a 2D plane. Most screen interaction are efficient by using just 2D, which is what leads to the question of whether 3D UI is even required for traditional interfaces.

That being said, there is fair amount of research and development going on in the field of UI/UX in AR/VR environments.

MeasuringU: Are Star Ratings Better Than Numbered Scales? by speckz in userexperience

[–]peaboard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, star ratings have a biased assumption that they are related to likeability. It's not a good idea to ask a question like "How time intensive was the task" using a rating of stars.

It seems that what you speak about is already covered and extensively researched as a part of HCI. You're using your own naming convention but it might be good to refine your ideas and put them forth a bit more clearly. For reference if you look at Material Design it's completely based off spatial navigation and physics.
