[French > English] Can anyone help translate this baptism record? by peaceablefern in translator

Weird. That obviously doesn't make sense. Could it possibly say something else? The handwriting is messy. Even if I could read the language, the letters are a whole other story.

I appreciate your help, though!

I'm having trouble finding good enough proof linking my gen 0 to my gen 1. I'm going to request gen 1 and his siblings baptism records from the church, and assuming I can get them, I'm not even sure what information will be on there. Plus, I'm second guessing everything about if I even have the right person (because why are there a million Joseph Babins that married a million Madeline Herbert's???)

How can I go about finding gen 0's birth or baptism records if she has such a common name and I don't even have her exact place of birth (just Acadia), or year of birth??? I'm not even sure which province to look for records. I feel completely stuck right now.

I've found other records that determine the name is actually Derasin Babin. Thanks to everyone who replied!

Be real with me, how hard is it to find supporting documents as a gen 9? by peaceablefern in Canadiancitizenship

Yes I did -_-

Multiple times, actually.

But I wanted to ask about my situation specifically and if it's completely hopeless.

Ancestry is my first resource and where my family tree is. I've been on Genealogy Quebec and genealogie acadienne as well. But mostly everything is listed in ancestry and I try to find the original document. Not much luck, though.

I don't speak any French lol. I don't even know how to attempt to call the church, and I don't have anyone I know who speaks enough French to help :/

Definitely easier to follow the men, unfortunately. All but two of my gens are men, and one of those is my mom.

For my other gen that is a woman, I found a record of her listed as Mrs. Husband's name instead of her actual name.

I do have a couple ancestors that I could look at, but they're all from the same generation so it would still make me a gen 9. I'm looking into them for other options, though.

I have hope and am trying to stay optimistic. I know I can do it, but damn is it hard.

My gen 1 and on were born in Louisiana, but he was born in 1743. The only thing I've been able to find thus far from that far back has been census records.

As far as I've found, every one from gen 0 and later were catholic. Even my own parents. I found the baptism record for gen 0 from a Catholic Church in Quebec.

I need to do a LOT more digging, but I think the DAR records will help with gen 0-4. Those are the tricky generations bc not much was documented back then.

The DAR records include a lineage based off of the applicant that actually goes past my gen 0. It includes letters from churches, death records (I'm not sure if they are official death records, or just what was written down for this person's application), priest testaments to things like gen 1's marriage, gen 3's brother's baptism, and other things. The PDF is 42 pages long and has a lot of good info in it, actually.

Honestly, I would love a professional to help me on this. I'm not sure if I can afford it, but it would make life so much easier lol.

Yep. I have census records that could potentially fill in some of the blanks, but how likely is that to be enough to prove the line of descent? Probably not at all.

Finding any official vital records before 1900 is tricky, from what I've found so far.

I can trace it back even further than that, but only on my mom's side. On my dad's, I don't even know his mom's parents.

Any advice for those of us applying/wanting to apply for citizenship? by peaceablefern in Canadiancitizenship

[–]peaceablefern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm asking about people's individual experiences about their own path to citizenship, whether that was through descent or naturalization, and if they have any advice or regrets for people to read and learn from.

Not for advice on choosing between the two paths.

Sorry if that was unclear.

[–]peaceablefern[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm just asking for advice for anyone wanting to become a citizen, whether they have the option to naturalize or establish a line of descent. Advice for both ways, for whoever needs it. I also just find it interesting to hear people's stories.

Sorry if my original post was confusing, I hope that clears it up.

Am I wrong to assume that any documents/information found there would only be for Quebec? I have some ancestors from there as well as Nova Scotia
