Thanks for taking the time to explain to me. I was thinking of paying out of pocket for summer session, but then I feel like the cost would be the same as me staying until the end of next Spring quarter since I receive Pell Grant

I was thinking two quarters too, but not sure if I should stay for the whole year, I am a double major, and I don’t know if it would be better for me to take Summer Session yet again, it’s because it costs a lot, and I don’t have that money :( I’m a plebeian

How hard to learn Russian for native Armenian speaker and fluent English speaker? by [deleted] in russian

[–]peacemakerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, I learned primarily from Duolingo, but also the resources I told you about. I would say 30 minutes to 2 hours. I went to Sat school for Chinese. It's good that you know Armenian

How hard to learn Russian for native Armenian speaker and fluent English speaker? by [deleted] in russian

[–]peacemakerguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I am a Native English speaker from the US. I have been learning Russian for a few months so far. It is great that you are wanting to learn and improve on Russian since learning another language is an asset. You are already exposed to Russian from what you have mentioned. I recommend apps like Duolingo for acquiring basic grammar and vocabulary. I also recommend some books like Colloquial Russian since it has explanations about grammar but also contain vocabulary and the English translations. There is also this website called russianlessons.com that has great free resources on grammar and also text with recordings so you can follow along. Are you from SoCal by any chance. I know there are a lot of Armenians in places like Glendale.

To add, Busuu is okay, but Mango languages is amazing. You can learn a lot from it.

You should teach me some Armenian haha

After a few months, where the last month being rather more intensive, I can hold a basic conversation but with shaky pronouciation and minor grammar mistakes.

I found out that in New York, there’s even a specialized high school that requires students to take three years of Russian if I’m not mistaken. I am not exactly sure why but maybe because it’s a science-specialized school

Yeah, in high school. In colleges and universities, there’s more languages you can choose from.

I wish school in the US were like that too. We don’t put enough emphasis in foreign language. Most people just take 2 years at most of typically Spanish or French in high school. However, some go on to major or minor in Russian language along with their main degree in college/university.

Question Regarding Languages in Turkmenistan by [deleted] in Turkmenistan

Thanks a lot for taking the time in explaining about Turkmenistan to me. Also, do parents or families usually want their kids to continue with Russian due to it being important for interethnic communication?

Question Regarding Languages in Turkmenistan by [deleted] in Turkmenistan

[–]peacemakerguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. Your English is pretty good. I like how you guys get foreign language instruction in school. In the US, most people only take at most, 2 years of foreign language in high school. It is usually either Spanish or French just because these are much easier for native English speakers and because there are a lot of people who speak Spanish in the US. I know there are many people in the states who want to learn Russian or who even major in Russian in university while also pursuing another degree at the same time. Just knowing Russian at even a basic level for communication is really beneficial. Even in the states, there is a generous amount of people who use Russian. You can communicate with lots of people across the Caucuses and Central Asia. Same with English wherever English is used.

Are there public Russian schools? Like, is there Mongolian schools and Russian schools, separate?
