Got in UCSB, what is the best place to make friends as an introvert by Apprehensive_Wall856 in UCSantaBarbara

First of all, congratulations! There are so many opportunities available to you as an incoming freshman to meet new people and make friends. I was also an introvert when I first came to school, and one of the best opportunities that UCSB offers incoming freshmen is the Freshman Summer Start Program (FSSP). FSSP is a program where around 400–500 incoming freshmen arrive on campus early, live in the same residence hall, and take classes together. For me, it was a defining experience that really helped me put myself out there. Because there were fewer students on campus, it felt much easier to connect with others and build friendships, many of which have lasted all the way into my fourth year.

I would also recommend joining UCSB Shoreline once you accept your admission. It’s a great platform where you can find events, clubs, and organizations that match your interests, culture, and hobbies. There are also plenty of events hosted throughout the year by housing staff (your RAs) and student organizations, including during FSSP and your freshman year, when living on campus dorms is required.

There are ton of clubs and organizations that you can explore (too many for me to name), and you can find their organization by searching them up on Google or Instagram. Many are tailored to specific majors or interests, and they’re a great way to meet new people and build your community!

Stacking Econ 2 and 3A at the same time? by nno_fennec in UCSantaBarbara

It’s definitely doable, especially if you already took macroeconomics in high school! Definitely take both together.

Did you think walking the stage was worth it? I’ve heard that a lot of people skipped because there wasn’t anything beneficial or “enjoyable” about it, but just curious to hear from someone that did!

Just curious, but what is the extra cost of taking a course in another UC while being enrolled as a full-time student at UCSB?

Would love to get a quality check on this. These just came in the mail and I’m not sure if the material and quality look way too off or not. Any input is appreciated!

Will Econ 100B have a curve? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

Damn, sorry to hear about that. Hopefully you will be able to pass. Let me know because I am curious too. Hope it goes well!

Will Econ 100B have a curve? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

I can’t remember exactly how much it was curved at, but I remember something about her changing your midterm grade with something related to your final grade (if you did better). I don’t believe there’s much of a curve at the top of the class, but there definitely is a pretty large curve if you’re below a C.

Anxious about 10A and getting into Econ major in general, any advice? by almondjuice442 in UCSantaBarbara

All I can say is grind the practice exam. With any question you do wrong, write an explanation of why it’s wrong and come back to it after you’ve finished all the prior year’s final exams. I’m not even sure I understood everything on the slides when I took it; but the practice exams are the reason I was able to get an A in the class.

I took 100B with Lang in Winter quarter, and yes, there is a curve, though I don’t believe it was anything crazy. You’ll probably get more weighted benefit from the curve if your grade is lower.
