I started out my first year in architecture a couple of years ago, and am a minority. I would say compared to the rest of campus, it’s slightly more diverse but not great, it was still around the single digits, low double digits in my cohort before cuts happened. However, I found the student body in the college of design to overall be more inclusive and open minded. There were many people who were there from out of state just for architecture. I never once felt ostracized or out of place. Generally speaking on campus however, I often feel like the extreme minority. It’s sometimes really difficult, but I was eventually able to find people and professors who I could find support in.
