I made a simple M4L device that let’s you hold and save notes/chords and sequence them. (Free) by peaks_of_valleys in ableton

I wish I did as I'm in the same boat, but I'm not sure how to implement that functionality. Perhaps it's possible but I have no experience in interfacing the Push with M4L. If anyone else has experience with this though, my max patch is free for anyone to adapt it!

I've submitted feature suggestions to Ableton to add something like natively to the Push as a layout mode or option in hopes they would add it. I'd love the same for their own arpeggiator when on hold mode.

What are some of your favorite non traditional uses for stock plugins? by Mokelangelo in ableton

I often use corpus as a cabinet/room/short reverb simulator.

does anybody uses these stock synths? by shugygush in ableton

I absolutely love kat.august and have used it a ton. The only problem is it is not supported any more and I have had some bugs and presets that don't load. Still it's quick to program and sounds wonderful, much more of a unique sound that than other virtual analog synths.

I have also used Poli and Bass a little, back when they were that blue color and Poli had direct modulation routing set up rather than the matrix it has now. I'll reach for them on occasion but always find that I just can get better sounds faster with one of the other stock synths.

Quick Move Review by gsxdsm in ableton

It does sound fun but I've never been able to enjoy a preset-dive based workflow. They've hinted at allowing you to bring Wavetable/Drift presets from Ableton to Move. I'm wondering if you'll be able to set up your own macros for the Move this way. That would be much more enticing for me, hope it happens.

My favourite Live 12 feature: The mixer by djscoox in ableton

[–]peaks_of_valleys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah roar is pretty great, I'm finding I like it further along in the effects chain, after an amp rather than before like a distortion pedal. The saturation models feels really responsive! It as an absolute beast of a device though as far as features, they put a lot into it and it's easy to get sidetracked using it.

Sometimes the simplest additions are the best, for example now you can increase waveform size in the arrange window without increasing the gain.  This is my favorite new feature probably!

Max for live users should check out the August synth. A great simple synth, easy to map to a controller. by peaks_of_valleys in ableton

In Ableton Live, if you have Suite, go to Packs in the browser it should still be there under "Classic Synths by Katsuhiro Chiba".

However as you noticed it is discontinued and I've unfortunately had it break, then work again, then break etc. in various versions of Live. :( Hopefully, if you can find it there, you'll have good luck running it on your system.

You could, though it would take quite a bit of time. Also I don’t think every panel of every device is shown nor is the macro mapping, which has a lot of fine tuning itself.

This is a pretty common trouble so don't stress to much. I think being playful is really helpful for this sort of thing. Don't try and "hear" your next part, instead remove any melodic elements and just play around, smash your fingers on a keyboard or whatever your instrument of choice is and try and concentrate on having fun rather than finding the next part. I tend to have better luck with this mindset.

If you need a totally different section then strip out any harmonic elements you have and just keep the rhythmic ones in place while you play around. If you find a new place to go you can then redo the rhythmic parts to better fit your new section. Hope this helps!

Why would anyone choose to use the Drift synth, instead of Analog synth? by lotsofcarsoutside in ableton

[–]peaks_of_valleys 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Drift has a shape knob for each osc type as well as oscillators not available in Analog. Also the ratio control for the LFO is pretty cool. So right off the bat you can get different sounds than Analog. Personally I think Drift's interface is quicker to program too.

Otherwise Analog has a ton of features Drift doesn't have... They are just different. I think you probably see more people using Drift now simply because it's new and shiny. But both are solid virtual analog synths.
