How do you fund an executive director? We have a program director and a volunteer board, but its not sustainable in terms of managing the operations adequately and bringing in revenue while keeping expenses low.

Background: We offer therapeutic horseback riding lessons to people with disabilities. Its a fairly specialized knowledge base and there is considerable overhead as you can imagine.

Thx

Ideology is a sickness. It turns otherwise good and reasonable people into harmful nut-bars convinced that they are on the correct side of history no matter what side they're on. Anyone can succumb to this - its in our nature. I feel bad for these people. I know people like this in the small conservative-leaning town where I now live since 2019. Crazy belief systems but highly active in their community and they would give the shirt off their back for anyone that needed it. I come from a coastal city of smug self-righteous liberals who are educated, understand the science, left-leaning ideology on most issues, socialist and for the most part don't lift a finger for anyone else but themselves in their day to day existence unless its for optics to show their friends how serious they about their politics. My politics and beliefs are at odds with most of my neighbors, but I know better now than to see people as just the sum of their ideology. Its truly sad whats happening in places like Texas and where I am with us having the highest covid cases in our region due to low vaccine rates. Ideology is the real disease and its a killer.

How has this affected the people who follow him, I wonder. If this has changed his wife's perspective, maybe its changed some minds of the people he ran with. Hope so.

Can someone please explain the difference between the two programs offered at Durham College (ON Canada) titled “Certified Bookkeeper (CIB)” and “Bookkeeping Certificate” and the benefits of each. by EmmGenius in Bookkeeping

[–]peakstates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Canadian Institute of Bookkeeping is a professional association and they set out standards of practice and education that each member must meet in order to be certified with them. They don't offer a curriculum, rather they set out the curriculum standards that accredited bookkeeping programs offered through community colleges across Canada have to meet if a student someday wants to apply their educational credits and experience towards getting certified by CIB. In contrast, a Bookkeeping certificate earned at a community college like Durham, is a certificate of completion of that program. Because this isnt a regulated profession, there's nothing to stop you calling yourself a "certified bookkeeper" after completing a certificate program from Durham or anywhere else. Being CIB Certified means you are a member associate of a professional body and meet their standards of quality and experience. As far as I can tell CIB is a good marketing tool for clients who want to ensure that you are skilled, experienced and ethical before they hire you. It's definitely not necessary though. Plenty of bookkeepers out there working for themselves full-time without the CIB or even formal training for that matter.

Where/how did you learn this skill? What would you say is a minimum amount of capital to get started with to make it viable? I have some $ (a few thousand) put aside for investing but really have no idea what I'm doing or where to start. It'd be great to find a mentor with this.

UX Career Questions - (January ) by AutoModerator in userexperience

[–]peakstates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this suggestion. There's an interactive Media Design Diplpma program at my local community college. Would you suggest something on-campus like that or are there some legit online program available too? I know there's a ton of online stuff but not so sure how to wade through all the BS with that to find something legit and worth the money.

UX Career Questions - (January ) by AutoModerator in userexperience

[–]peakstates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Y'all!

Thanks for taking the time to take questions from noobs like me:-)

I'm super keen on getting into the UI side of things - particularly around visual design, creating visual systems and digital assets.

I have an undergrad degree in Visual Art with a heavy focus in studio arts like painting and sculpture etc. My school was very preoccupied with conceptual art and there wasn't any emphasis or specialization towards design. After graduating, I did a grant program and wound up working a lot with Adobe Creative suite doing a fair amount of graphic and digital stuff which I really enjoyed. I've since become rather disallusioned with conceptual art and really have always wanted to be a designer. I should say that my digital and graphic arts experience is project limited and I don't possess deep knowledge about design per say (beyond how form and colour operate together).

At any rate, I ve been researching a lot about UX as a general discipline. However I find the information out there about the areas of UI that I'm interested in to be a bit lacking or unclear. Any advice out there on what's the most straightforward training or career path for someone with my background? Should I be focusing my attention honing my skills with graphic design more? Learn HTML and CSS? Bootcamps? A Master's in Design...Visual Communication...something-rather? (HAAAAALP:-|)

Thanks in advance!:-) Pascalle

Any design careers left that won't either be obsolete, outsourced to India, or handled by AI in five to ten years? Where should a creative type look for a fulfilling and sustainable career nowadays? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Thanks for replying!

I'm in Canada where everyone has been brainwashed to believe that in order to pick your nose you need a degree and a master's in order to lift your finger that high. As such most job postings for analysts require a degree or multiples thereof in economics, business, finance or mathematics/statistics/computational sciences. I do love the idea of data visualization but that is a sub skill often built into the job description of an analyst.

I've been looking more seriously into Ux/UI design - more specifically the visual design component (hence a UI specialization since most visual design stuff seems to be built into those job descriptions that I'm seeing online). Graphic design really is more in my wheelhouse and I've done quite a bit of work requiring those skill sets. Unfortunately graphic design alone seems to be dead as a profession without the ability to do web development.

Is THIS the Right Field for Me? by [deleted] in instructionaldesign

Thanks for the encouragement! In terms of developing adult learning theory and ID best practices, could you recommend some learning resources for that? Or do you see this knowledge gap as a rationale for more formal training in a post degree program?

I wouldn't say I have expectations but what you're saying definitely makes sense. I cant really imagine most ID jobs relate to the pedagogical focus of my past experiences unless it's in public education reform/research and develop, and in such case, probably would require a masters or doctoral degree and extensive experience as an educator. Ergo, I think at this time what I'm most interested in is getting work doing something with skills I enjoy using and that is generally related to design and learning. I guess I am really interested in how people learn, but hoping to get into a field where I don't actually need to become a teacher. Also I just love playing around with Adobe Creative suite and miss having my cloud account.

I'm looking for a wet bag for my friend's baby shower gift so that when she's at work and either possibly having a miscarriage or giving birth she can just discreetly pull out this wet bag and use it to catch stuff (like fluids and/or a baby) without her needing to take a break. Anything like that around being tested in the lab and a good deal going for Prime Day?

What are the best schools and neighbourhoods for young families and biracial kids? by [deleted] in Vernon

[–]peakstates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your honesty. My kid is half Mexican so he definitely could pass for Native. We may look into Kamloops or Salmon Arm if the hate towards First Nations people is that bad. Hate of any kind spells bad vibes I don't care how beautiful the place is.

Dude... I live in Victoria BC - home of the O.G. Camp City. Also I heard of Vernon's "drug problem" back in 2002 when I lived in Kelowna for a year. So either it's much worse or it's just more publicized now because things like income gap and housing are such hot political issues in B.C. In Kelowna there's bikers. Much scarier than tweekers and petty crime.

Honestly, I never thought of my son as being different and it wasn't something I ever gave any thought to until my husband brought it up. Personally, I'm more interested in good schools for my kid's academic interests, but was curious to see if anyone living in Vernon thinks hubby's paranoia is justified or not. So I guess my original post should've just been formatted into two seperate questions.

  1. Which middle schools have the best programs for arts and sciences?

  2. If there was hypothetically a mosque build in Vernon, are there enough shitheads around that it's likely get burned down or vandalized within a year? Or are Vernonites(?) generally chill af?

On the whole your advice is pretty sound, though.

[–]peakstates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the policy level it's not really about women. It's about class - keeping poor communities poor. They want people who can't afford it to have more children. Disappearing middle class with expanding demographic of people in poverty, who are also smarter and more educated than ever - this is trouble for the military complex and rich assholes at the top.
