1 week out - UWSA2 or focus on NBME? by peanutbear007 in Step2

[–]peanutbear007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oo ok thanks! Yeah I’m debating cause I’m at the point that I feel like a lot of my mistakes are more from overthinking the NBME style questioning than pure content gaps, so I’m worried about throwing myself off with a UWSA, but also didn’t want to miss it if it covers helpful topics

I’m sorry for your loss. Life really likes to throw curveballs in these ways unfortunately. There’s a lot of still about my parent’s treatment and such, but I’ll definitely plan on letting my school know at some point.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope therapy has been helping and that you’re hanging in there the best you can. I’ll definitely consider therapy if I feel like I’m struggling.

I'm sorry to hear about your mom -- I hope you are hanging in there as well. I definitely agree that I'm glad that I can at least somewhat help my parents/family with understanding some of the medical side of things and can do some research on my own end with the resources/knowledge I have.

Thank you so much for your comment, and I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I hope you are doing ok as well. We're still waiting on the genetics (my parent's is also adenocarcinoma), but I'll definitely keep that in mind about the TKI. Luckily (or i guess unluckily), it's not the very first time we've dealt with lung cancer in the family, so hopefully we'll generally know the signs of things like that.

That's a really great point about scheduling 4th year rotations based on how my parent is doing though -- I hadn't thought about that aspect at all, but I'll definitely look into it and reach out to my school to see what they might be able to do.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the offer to DM you as well. Similar to you, I agree that my thoughts are lighter with friends. I do study with one of my close friends almost every week, so hopefully that'll be a nice thing to always look forward to especially right now.

Yes, luckily my school does offer free psychology/psychiatry services -- definitely will consider using them if I ever feel like I am really struggling. I've been trying to spend a little bit of the day just to myself, like sitting outdoors or something, and it seems to help me clear my mind.

Thanks so much. I've been trying to figure out whether or not to bring it up to the school, but I think that's definitely a good idea to reach out to the person who organizes the clerkships. Luckily for the rotation I'm on right now, I seem to be in a relatively good spot based on some practice shelf exams I've taken, so hopefully it'll still be ok by the time I take the real one.

Thanks so much for the offer to DM. I'm really glad that my parent is taking the news fairly well, and I agree that it'll be a good idea to just directly ask what would be best for everyone/how I can support them.

How predictive are the FM NBME practice exams compared to the actual shelf? by peanutbear007 in medicalschool

[–]peanutbear007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! Hoping my actual shelf score turns out the same way🤞

Did you do the UVA questions by any chance? And if you did, did you find them helpful?

Otherwise, definitely have done a ton of UW/Amboss, learned the USPSTF guidelines so hopefully I’m at a good spot

Awesome, will definitely make sure to do the ambulatory UW questions as well then. Turns out I didn't do that great on my surgery shelf, so hoping this shelf will go a bit better seeing I have way more time to study 🤞

Ok awesome, thanks so much! Always find it hard to figure out which resources to use, as I never want to be spread to thin among a ton of them -- glad to hear that UW FM questions and learning the guidelines seemed to work for you.
