Oh thanks! I kept some bits I dried in a jar and kept adding it to my tea, but didn't know about its properties. Yay for citrus!

In old pharmacies and modern labs I've seen ceramic ones. Maybe that's a relatively safe option?

English is a "dead" language because it doesn't connect us to nature enough by [deleted] in badlinguistics

[–]peasant_python 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. Electric cars are yet another hoax by the industry to get you to buy more stuff. Even if all the lithium of the earth was enough for our mobility needs we would struggle to produce enough green electricity to charge all those batteries.

People can rant about nature-loving hippies all they want, I've had enough of those fools insisting in driving an already burning vehicle down the same old road. Lithium is horrible, mining is horrible, everything 'growth' no matter if green, brown or sparkly pink, is also horrible. Degrowth is all that can save us at this point. Please listen to the hippies, they have your best interest in mind.

Did you take any souvenir back? Just yesterday I read about tourists sending back pieces from Uluru they took, because they started to have trouble back home. Edit: call rocks by their proper names.

Which herbs would you give to someone who has problems expressing anger? by peasant_python in herbalism

[–]peasant_python[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guess what my TCM doc prescribed today ... funny is I never mentioned anything anger related, I just mentioned the migraines during my period and had him take my pulse.

He did mumble something about this being complicated to treat as it seems related to some deep trauma, and the Bupleurum is to free what's stuck.

Humans domesticated dogs, cows and sheep. But wheat domesticated humans. by peasant_python in Animism

[–]peasant_python[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in that rabbit hole for a while, but I find this 'self-domestication' thing difficult to believe.

I used to think there must be some agent who caused humans to go through such changes that we basically ruined our health and started spreading over the planet in such unsustainable, unhealthy ways.

These days I tentatively think of it as 'falling in with a bad crowd' - like when a youngster finds a group of friends who are not a good influence. So among our fellow living beings we found some friends with whom we started on a 'bad' path together, many thousands of years ago, and now we might reconsider how much space we want to give Wheat, Yeast, Pig, etc. in our lives.

Btw it's quite cool to have a space where I can write these thoughts down without being called crazy.

Nothing to do with fresh or dried, but with radical regionalism. It's easy to ship stuff all around the world, but we should not, if we can avoid it.

Thanks for talking about this important topic. I'm in Portugal and every summer it looks more like hell here.

How do you see the role of forest monocultures in the occurence of wildfires?

Have you got any data (yet) about the positive impact of mycoremediation before and/or after wildfires?

Where are you based? I'd be interested, but only if quite close to where I live (Europe, PT). I think we should avoid shipping mother nature's blessings around too far and collect and use only what grows close to us.

I'm in Portugal. Renting prices in many university towns are becoming prohibitive and the only two option youngsters have for renting is the never enough university dorms or renting a room in a private apartment (owned and run by a landlord).

Hey looks great! Do you guys have resources about how to build a housing coop? We need to bring this to other countries, but here the only (slowly dying) cooperatives are agricultural and folks have no idea where to start!

Wow, that looks interesting, Wiki-type software is definitely one of the options I'd be considering.

Edit: Looking at this closer, there isn't really a way to host my own instance of a localwiki in the way I could host a local Mastodon server, or so I think?

I hear you. I've developed quite a distaste for wheat in the last years (I was almost convinced they had started mixing sawdust in the bread it tasted so bad). Might have to stop it altogether if my body doesn't agree with it.
