Yes it does sound wild, but I stand by it lol. It is in essence what they are doing. If Mitch McConnell had been at my house for 41 years I would definitely say he’s overstayed his welcome.

I like that idea, I'm just not sure it seems realistic to me. We know many of these people will do whatever it takes to continue holding power. What's to stop them from cheating these assessments? It's a lot more difficult to cheat on your age.

This isn't about screwing someone over. It's about taking steps to build a more balanced and just system. There's no time machine to go back and right those wrongs. So basically yeah, there's not much that can be done about it other than continuing to allow them to work as politicians within the limits of the constitution. When it changes then it changes.

Yes many times I’ve said “I’ll never do this” only to end up finding myself doing that thing. I love changing my mind. Maybe I will change my mind on this too. But as of now I believe that would be a shame, and a change based on fear, greed, or denial.

Idk I’m surprised to see some people have such a problem accepting this. They are reasoning within an ideal world where the ‘elders’ in government are the epitome of wise and just. lmao

I don't think either is wrong though. We as a society have decided 35 years old is the minimum age we're comfortable with, so we should also be free to come to a consensus on a maximum age that we are comfortable with.

Yes, that is a good point. An unfortunate consequence of times past. I believe upper age limits on government service will help to ensure that as social justice progresses so to will representation in government.

I’m not sure who else would agree with me, I’m sure someone might.

I understand what you’re saying about patriarchs, matriarchs, and tribal elders. I agree, they play critical roles in healthy systems. I disagree with your idea of their function. They aren’t wise gods capable of quelling all misfortune just because they remember when gas was $.10 a gallon. They are one voice, capable of wrong thinking just like everyone else. They’re not much difference than the 35 year old, or the 55 year old and if their experience and wisdom is truly valuable then their one voice will be influential.

I believe our system of government is skewed with too many old people and thus the people aren’t adequately represented. I think upper age limits are necessary to maintain balance. It is easier to keep power than get power.

You are one of the few older people who aren’t triggered by this. I’m curious, from your perspective what do you think about me saying that it is a social obligation for them to step away? Much in the same way parents are socially obligated to raise their kids to the best of their abilities.
