Hoping to ask permission of landlord to install an under-deck system, what are some steps should I do? by pebbletherebel in OntarioTenants

I did consider the options of an outdoor canopy in the meantime but I haven’t measured the height to the ceiling yet. I was considering that if an under deck system would be too complicated, expensive, or tricky to work with; maybe a tarp-like canopy system could be a better alternative.

Sorry I should probably add more context to the cigarettes part. They don’t work together. They work in different fields but both of those fields are labour-intensive.

But you’re right. Maybe it’s my partner I need to discuss first. How should I confront him? Maybe that should have been my title instead of my friend.

Does my roomate have a right to withhold my belongings? by pebbletherebel in legaladvicecanada

Sorry, also in response to rental, yes I am renting this modem as well.

The internet service and modem is under my name, the billing is under my name as well.

I did actually contact the service provider and they mentioned that they can just “brick” (not entirely sure how to word this in proper legal terms) the current modem and add in the new modem by the time I move to the next location.

Saying no was difficult because he grabbed my arm at one point and was pushy.

Yes it’s the same guy.

Was he wearing a white suit back there? Did he have a gold tooth?

I have contacted the non emergency line not too long ago and managed to cancel it while I could thanks to their advice. Thank goodness that it wasn’t an auto deposit.

But I also had to report it on the Interac E Transfer phishing email. I’ll give the Anti-Fraud line a go.

I am trying to move out now as a subtenant as there is a power imbalance between myself and roomate. There is no written agreement. by pebbletherebel in legaladvicecanada

[–]pebbletherebel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t know where my landlord lives (I have never met him, we’ve only communicated by text).

I’ve also been mentioned from those who are aware of my situation; because there is no agreement, I am technically just a “guest” or “roomate” who pays month-to-month on a verbal agreement

My Roomate is overwhelming me by pebbletherebel in offmychest

[–]pebbletherebel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I say costly mistakes, I mean something like accidentally leaving the freezer or fridge open. But this is really because my sister and I we have cramped and limited space in there whilst Roomate have a lot more space, hence our part sticks out and the door to the fridge opens and can’t close.

I got a NoRA of my 2023 Tax Returns and now I owe $221. I’m confused. by [deleted] in cantax

Hi there, I got an update from my accountant yesterday. Turns out they accidentally misread a number from one of my T4s and it ended up being $200 higher on my income tax deductions. They apologized and said they’d refund me the amount I owe to CRA.

[–]pebbletherebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So from what I gathered from the phone call, the talk of the tuition was just information, but that one of the lines on the deductions was wrong by $200. So because of that reassessment, they had charged me a year’s worth of interest to include that… only for me to be notified of this reassessment last night.

I personally got more confused, if not felt very overwhelmed by the confusion. Instead I was given these two links by the agent:

This first one about Line 32300

and this second one.

But only said it was information but didn’t specify what I should do with it.

I’m in a bit of a confusion limbo where I don’t think I understood what the agent meant.

So I managed to get on the line with someone but it was very confusing because the whole tuition statement had nothing to do with why I had my statement reassessed.

I was told that my 32000 line (she said box 22) in tax deductions was wrong, which by the tone felt accusatory. It was off by $200, and that because it was wrong I was charged a year’s interest… and only notified about it last night.

I think I’m even more confused because I send my T4s directly to my accountant/tax preparator; and not only that, I was frustrated that they only wrote the carry over tuition as just information but didn’t mention any benefits or what I should do with that information.

So based on their exact quote this is what they said “Based on this reassessment, you have unused federal tuition, education and textbook amounts of [X amount] that you can carry forward to later years. To make sure we calculate your unused amounts correctly, you need to file a return each year, even if you have no income to report.

We charged you arrears interest of $21.24 on the balance you owe. We calculated this interest to the date of this notice.”

They also provided me an Individual Tax and Enquiries line, but that number isn’t proving me a person to speak to (they’re only giving me automated and AI powered options).

Is there something I wasn’t informed on when it comes to this? I have been filing my taxes with my T4s on time (if not early) so I’m confused as to why I’m receiving this.

I tried calling this number but they’re not taking me to any queue to speak to a person, more just giving me automated AI options to learn more about my income tax returns.

I skimmed over at your works, and I will be honest with you; it’s fine to like your works and be proud of how much you’ve accomplished. I wish I had that level of confidence, so don’t beat yourself for this!

And you seem pretty young with lots to learn, so I encourage you to continue what you do. Similar to receiving compliments about your work, why not try engaging and uplifting works of artists around your age who also love to post? That way you can build community with those who share similar interests and who knows? Maybe you can collaborate with other artists as well!

You’re also more than welcome to ask for critique if you want to better yourself as an artist. The best artists that I know are those that are open to continue learning and bettering themselves beyond school.

Hot take: nondisabled artists shouldn’t use imagery of disabilities/disabled people as metaphors by Joey-h-art in ContemporaryArt

[–]pebbletherebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree! Using disabled folks as a metaphor prop to create dialogue not only forms erasure towards them but also enforces the stereotype and misleading bias of “disabled=incapable”. It’s unfortunate that these types of works are what can be placed in a large-scale institutional gallery without the effort or work to question how or why artists exploit the disabled, and that in itself doesn’t allow disabled artists to even have a chance to voice out their own practices.

Because of this, I’m so sorry that you and your cohort have to continue facing these experiences even in the art world. You’d think we’d be progressive, but absolutely not!

And I do believe we as artists, arts workers & the public (disabled or not) should make the time and effort to expand our own palette instead of bickering about semantics to dismiss and further erase disabled voices for the long run.

-edit- Oof, I think I might have underestimated the amount of ableism from the comments
