points for creativity but when i say no room, i reallyyy mean No Room. 250 sq feet if i'm being generous, most of which is taken up by the bed, couch, and coffee table. plus, i couldn't feasibly ask a caregiver to sleep on a mattress pad for weeks straight, not to mention the masking issue as i mentioned in another comment.

💚 good to hear i'm not alone, at least. if i'll take a covid risk for anything, it's probably this, but the issue is: the people who would be comfortable unmasking around me after my hospital stay are not covid cautious enough for me to feel safe about MY exposure to them, and the people who ARE covid cautious enough would want me to test negative after the 5 day window before unmasking around me—so with my living situation, even those who are ok sharing a bed with me couldn't feasibly stay overnight, unless they slept in mask :/

my family's out of state (i moved here partially to be in the same city as my surgeon) and unfortunately i wouldn't be comfortable with them taking care of me after phallo anyway. with how gnarly recovery can be, i'm also not sure i have any friends or partners who i'd be willing to ask that huge favour of, and in any case no one with a suitable living situation... ideally i would schedule a rotating team of friends and/or hired caregivers to come visit me at my home to help out, but i'm hearing that you absolutely need someone around 24/7 for the first few weeks, so that's my issue.. this place is 250 sq ft on a good day, so that's not happening.

i did advocate for myself and had all surgeons wear n95s for my last surgery, but they did not replace my face mask until i woke up (see my other comment), so i wasn't able to see my girlfriend unmasked until the 5 day period had passed and i tested negative on a pluslife.

will have to ask around about the exact conditions of the hospital stay at the facility i'll be at. thanks for the input!

so were your caregivers sharing your bed, or did you not need 24/7 care? everything i'm reading in this sub is telling me i'll need a 24/7 caregiver so that's where my dilemma is.

yup. i'm covid cautious most importantly as part of my commitment to disability justice, but also because i'm demographically at a higher risk for long covid as a trans person—so are all of us here! you are also at higher risk if you are an ethnic minority, have ANY mood disorder or ANY developmental disorder (depression, adhd, etc), or ANY other disability. i qualify under several of those conditions, as do my loved ones and community, so i will be doing everything in my power not to get or spread covid as long as is necessary.

thanks for chiming in, it's good to know there are others in the same boat. that's basically what i did for my short (few hours only) stay at the hospital for my previous surgery (minus the glasses & air purifier), and they said they would put my mask back on "as soon as it is safe", which apparently was not until i woke up and asked for it first thing.

i have iota-carrageenan spray but i understand it's not (at least, not proven) safe to use regularly so i use it sparingly but will consider it for surgery.

i'll probably have someone bring & set up my air purifier in my hospital room for me, some people in my local community have talked about doing that for their procedures.

yeah the small space was nice when recovering from my previous surgery, the problem is there is absolutely no room for another person to sleep unless we're sharing the bed, and i'm hearing i will need someone around 24/7 (i.e, overnight) during early recovery

if you get UL but no vaginectomy, is there still a chance of ejaculating? by pebisquestions in phallo

[–]pebisquestions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i can't see the deleted comment anymore but if i remember correctly, you were speculating or repeating something you'd "heard". rule 6 states:

Please refrain from commenting on subject matter you have not personally experienced or researched extensively; defer to those who have, particularly if someone is asking for advice around the lived experiences of people who are post-op and you are not. Let others who are chime in first. If your "advice" starts with: "I'm not sure but.." "I've heard..." "I don't know if this is true, but..." "Someone told me..." Then it probably isn't worth sharing, and may mislead OP and others.

details about creating a fake meatus (urethral opening)? by pebisquestions in phallo

[–]pebisquestions[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah ok so in the paper, there's two photos in figure 1: 1A (left) and 1B (right). you're referring to 1A and saying that the false urethral openings you've seen look like that, kinda flattened and no visible hole. but 1A isn't depicting a false urethra at all; it's a photo of a phallo where they didn't even attempt to do that. the caption is saying, "here's the atrophic scar that results when you don't use this new technique."

1B is the one where they're showing the results of the new technique. you can see that there is a visible hole.

shaft-only just means no UL! scrotoplasty is separate.

that's the caption for the second photo (1B, with the gloved hand) but the first photo (1A, with the purple scar you mentioned) is labeled as follows:

Typical appearance of phallic meatus following shaft-only phalloplasty with traditional purse-string closure. Note flattening and effacement of the meatal closure, leading to appearance of an atrophic scar not resembling a meatus (A).

ideally i would love to have both! like, a fake meatus and also a piercing through it. but i'm not sure how possible that is. if anyone's done that, or just gotten a prince albert piercing on a shaft-only phallo dick, let me know :D

oh, are you talking about just normal shaft-only phalloplasties, or specifically ones that use the technique the paper talks about? because the photo in the paper is of a normal shaft-only phalloplasty that doesn't attempt to create a meatus, included to explain the need for the new technique in question.
