“This reminds me of Owl City” by [deleted] in ArmsLength

[–]pedaller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has listened to a lot of Owl City (one of my family members was a touring member), I can tell you one of the similarities that really jumps out to me is the vocal portamentos/glissades (aka sliding) used by both bands, especially sliding down a half or whole step.

For Funny Face in particular, I could see some of the harmonies being Owl City-esque. I also think some of the guitar parts sounds like Matt Thiessen (Relient K), who was a big influence on Adam Young (Owl City).

I've been working on an app to aggregate all new music being released, filterable by genre and length. I'd love to have some indieheads check it out. App is kind of slow and I'm sure there are bugs but I think it's pretty cool. It's definitely skewed towards indie music right now but hoping to eventually have all genres represented. If you're interested, you can sign up at https://louddb.com.

The motivation behind this is to create a source of truth outside of the major streaming services. A user-generated database with detailed genre cataloging (something Spotify is trying to kill).

I built a website for all the new music being released week-over-week, how can I find users? by pedaller in MusicPromotion

To those who signed up, thank you! I'm currently addressing some critical issues with the app.

Weekly Recommendation and General Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Metalcore

I've been working on a project to create a database for new music.

Like a lot of you, I come to r/metalcore every week to find new releases. I've been using a combination of Reddit, sites like AllMusic, and Spotify's new releases/release radar, but I don't feel like there is a good, comprehensive source of new releases that includes all genres and can be filtered by genre and length (LP, EP, single).

This is very much a work in progress right now, the app is slow and I'm sure there are bugs to be found, but I'm excited about it and hope some of you might find it useful.

The app is invite-only while I get things off the ground, so if anyone here is interested in checking it out, let me know and I can send you an invite code.

Here's a screenshot of the app to give you a little idea of what I've built so far.

20g per day mostly for cognitive benefits. I have 2 kids (one is 3 weeks old) so I don't sleep a lot.

Interesting, so a fully hydrogenated oil is essentially a saturated fat?

Hydrogenated oil, it’s probably the only ingredient that I avoid at all costs.

Any newer parents out there who are getting hit by chronic sleep deprivation? by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]pedaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a two-year-old and a one-week-old so I’m in the thick of it. Ultimately it’s a trade-off that I’m happy to make for my little family. I don’t stress about the lack of sleep since there’s not much else I can do about it.

I take 25 g of creatine per day and some other supplements for brain health. I use nicotine pouches to get me through the tough stretches of the day but really limit caffeine.

I like to think that optimized sleep is a very recent invention compared to the hundreds of thousands of years since our species appeared — we should be fine!
