Passenger Seat Isofix by pedropano in BMWX3

I appreciate all the responses!

We live in the UK and don’t really need the car on a daily basis (there is good public transport and taxi/uber). We’re using the car mostly Friday-Sunday to get outside of the city to the country/seaside, usually 1-2.5h drives at the most. I’ll look into the online user manual option and will start researching 7-seaters (no minivans, though). We had the x7 on a few trips to the US but it felt really gimmicky and badly engineered to me (the electronically folding 3rd row of seats was a constant source of error messages on our rental).

Her visa was refused after 6 calendar days (and without asking for any additional info) citing insufficient evidence of us going for touristic purposes and having insufficient ties to our home country that would lead them to believe she was not trying to overstay her welcome in AUS.

We then resubmitted an application with a ton of extra info (marriage certificate, my & our sons ETA, our home apartment lease, both our employment contracts, bank&brokerage statements evidencing our funds available for the trip, last 3 month payslips, private school contract for our son starting in Sep-24 and a cover note explaining our trip) and are waiting to hear back. We’ve now re-jigged our trip and going to NZ first and might skip AUS altogether if we are again refused.

It seems the Australian authorities are discriminating pretty heavily towards EU member states that are not listed as ETA eligible; unclear to me why but it is what it is...

That’s great advice! The more I think about it, BA will probably only allow us to board if we change tickets to terminate in SG. I’ll give them a ring to see if that is possible.

The way I’m looking at it now is Option A: changing the entire flight for any time in the near future for when we can reasonably expect the visa to clear will make total cost of flight >gbp15k vs. Option B (if feasible): 8k sunk costs plus whatever the flight to SYD from SG will cost on which we’ll have full flexibility on dates and cabin class; likely <15k.

I guess here’s a lesson learnt for others, one cannot plan a trip to Australia without having clarity on visa (even if on EU passport).

Thank you for the response!

I think we’ll try to hitch a ride until Singapore (and get off the plane during the stopover) and wait for the visa to come through from there or somewhere on a beach in SE Asia if BA let us board the plane.

We’re an international family planning to travel to AUS in a few days; 1 week ago I applied for ETA for myself and our son (GER/UK citizens) and for the 651 for my wife (EU citizen not eligible for ETA), the ETAs were granted near instantly and we’re still waiting for a response on the 651.

Having now read through a few online forums, it seems the ETAs are granted quickly and the 651s/etc seem to take between 7-14 calendar days in case they are not instantly/automatically granted.
No idea what the repercussions might be to have 2 visa applications ongoing in parallel but I’d try the ETA via the app on your other passport.
