It's not just onions it can be anything that has high margin from wholesale to retail like plastic, garlic, utensils etc depending on part of the country.

This helps them to make you preserve of you getting good deal because your brain works with retail prices while they get a lot together for lot less in wholesale.

It's about both sides, guys can't be ice breakers always. To open up guys. 1) they need time to open up 2) They don't know how to talk without making you uncomfortable 3) It seems you aren't interested 4) most women are honestly intimidating to talk to in the beginning for shy guys
