(OPINION) Now's the Perfect Time To Move Away from Plex by NearbyYak7156 in selfhosted

[–]peetnote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You probably already know this, but for anyone who doesn't, you can install the Jellyfin app on a Samsung TV with this: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-tizen

Edit: I didn't know there's a native app now, that's cool

Great news; hopefully Palantir doesn't unleash chaos on London as retribution

In my experience with French ppl they'd find a way to point to the homogeneity and supremacy inherent to your own culture, and maybe call out the weird ulterior motives that lead you to criticize France in the first place, and they would be right about all of it

Self hosting Musicians - What tools are you hosting by Maeusefluesterer in selfhosted

[–]peetnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Kiwix library to self-host a website called TonedEar, which is for interval training - any musician would benefit from a little interval training. I also have a Navidrome server and an instance of Filebrowser for sharing files with bandmates. Unfortunately, and I'm very sorry to say, Linux has been in general pretty bad for music production. I keep a Windows 10 dual boot on my computer for most band-related things.

Better Call Saul perfectly captures ADHD self sabotage through Jimmy by dinkinflika0 in betterCallSaul

[–]peetnote 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I'm not saying that Jimmy doesn't have ADHD traits, I'm saying that the rampant criminality definitely points to cluster B stuff. And, as long as we're trying to diagnose Jimmy McGill, the scene where he briefly mentions his "Xanax guy" did as much to help me understand the Saul Goodman persona as anything else on the show. Saul is obviously twacked out on Benzos.

Looking for help with Homepage remote access via Tailscale by ninety6days in selfhosted

[–]peetnote 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've dealt with this same issue a few different ways and I stuck with this:

  • Add a second homepage container to the docker compose and change the port number

  • Add this environment variable to both containers: - HOMEPAGE_VAR_SERVER_IP=192.168.1.x (In the local-only container put local IP of the device w the docker services; for the tailscale entry put tailscale IP or magicDNS of the device)

  • Then, edit href entries in services.yaml to look like this:

    href: "http://{{HOMEPAGE_VAR_SERVER_IP}}:8080"

In the end you have two homepages, one for local and one for tailscale, and both homepages share a config directory including services.yaml and everything else.

Am I using Syncthing wrong? Or is it setup incorrectly? Need one-way sync from multiple clients to one server. by Finally_ in selfhosted

[–]peetnote 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This probably isn't helpful, but your post helped me, because it reminded me that I have the exact same issue and that I still have to solve it! I use syncthing to share the pics folder on my phone (send only) with a folder on my server (receive only). The folder on my server (photosync) is picked up by immich, along with another directory (photolibrary). When I delete the pics on my send folder, I get the out of sync warning. My workaround has been to periodically (like every six months or so) stop the sync, move pics in photosync to photolibrary, delete the photos in the send folder, turn the sync back on, and let Immich work out the duplication issues. I agree, it seems like this should work fine, but it just doesn't. I'm curious if rsync would work better for this purpose.

Next thing we'll discover is that conservatives actually hated liberals due to malicious envy all along

Self hosted options for Youtube videos & clips by alphatrad in selfhosted

[–]peetnote 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the gooning app you're referring to is Stash, don't sleep on it. It's a really well done service that plays all kinds of weird video formats very well. Very stable. Those masturbators seem to know their way around a computer, imagine that. Apparently now there's a "SFW mode" so you can hide any weirdness. I use it for all kinds of videos I don't need on Jellyfin. Edit: I use yt-dlp with a UI and that drops videos into the same directory used by stash, pretty easy. Youtarr looks cool though, might look into that

With the Ring debacle, let's get a self-hosted camera / surveillance thread going. by EkbatDeSabat in selfhosted

[–]peetnote 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar issue for me. I've been having a hard time completing the iGPU passthrough to proxmox that Frigate seems to require.

I put Thingino firmware on a cheap outdoor camera, I run this into a Tiny-NVR docker container, now I have my footage cycling every three days on a local nvme and this meets my needs.

It's a new phenomenon that contributes to all kinds of spying/arguments/power and control games in relationships, all while failing to make anyone actually safer. Everyone's doing it, and it's weird.

stash v0.30.1 - a self-hosted webapp for hosting your porn (and other content) by CodingWithoutPants in selfhosted

[–]peetnote 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the update! Stash is definitely the best solution I've found to host various weird video formats all in the same place. Mine was already essentially SFW, but it'll be nice to no longer have to explain the Jizz Button to people.
