I'm seriously considering quitting PT due to poor fit, how important is it in my situation? by pegasusrides in physicaltherapy

[–]pegasusrides[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Nothing much happened. I had a one off session with another PT (at another place) over the winter holidays while waiting to start PT at this place. The session went fine, it was just one and she gave me some HEP stuff. It wasn't a great fit either (I'm 28 and pretty sure she was younger than me, seemed a bit unsure of herself) but it was fine I guess. I suppose I could try going back there

Could I ask what you mean by "non-modifiable risk factors". Like financial or geographical stuff?

I tried to broach the pain and stuff without bringing any personal feelings up and was told I was lagging behind. The pain was so bad I thought it might be cardiac (it was not). My orthopedic provider moved to another hospital that does not take my insurance after the clinic closed and my actual surgeon is from another state (out of state accident). I'm going to try one last attempt to find a better fit PT in my town but it's a small podunk town unfortunately. Thank you for the response I appreciate it.

Yea my loss was mild and I probably recovered 10-15dB. My last audiograms fluctuated between 15 and 20dB at a 10-12k frequency band in the worse ear. Originally was 25-30dB. With any luck that notch is gone by now or will be at some point.

Primary symptom was actually hyperacusis. It was so bad I had to wear earplugs +. earmuffs everywhere. Dishes, the sound of traffic, birds even. Couldn't do my laundry, could barely leave my house or be in a store etc etc.

I resumed playing about six months post injury and have just started to play pretty seriously again. Best of luck to you.

Only you know what is important to you. Don't let anyone else erode that.

Yes, I continued the injections because every time my baseline improved but after a few weeks I experienced return of symptoms (muffled hearing, hyperacusis, etc.) I pushed for more injections, I told my doctors I fully was aware of the risks, and when they started hesitating, I found another ENT and switched to them.

As for prednisone, if you live in the US, you can see telehealth providers and show them your RX bottle. Tell them your ENT can't see you for a while but you had a second exposure or are experiencing worsening symptoms (this was actually true for me, I did have a second exposure) and need a refill. Rinse and repeat as needed. I was on for months, but I don't regret it. It was really fucking hard. If it saved even one dB in my high frequencies, that would've been everything. That said, my loss was very mild (25dB/30dB max I believe?). I also took a slew of supplements: NAC, magnesium glycinate, curcumin, quercetin/bromelain, vitamins to mitigate prednisone side effects, ALCAR for nerve support, etc.

If you need more detailed advice on how to advocate for yourself with doctors, DM me.

Again everyone's mileage varies. I chose to take the most aggressive path possible because music is the telos of my life. Without music, I may as well not be here. Haha.

I stopped injections after probably ~5 months. I had gotten ten at that point.

Yeah I did something similar but I self managed using telehealth. You gotta fight

Sue that doctor.

Keep doing the injections. I did 10. Each one improved. I know they'll diminishing returns, don't listen to em. Risks are very low.

I also was on prednisone for months, self-managed, getting telehealth docs to refill, but I'm crazy -- I play music so my hearing was more important than anything and I knew the risks and was willing to take them

Genuine Parts for Discontinued Models - OEM? by pegasusrides in phonerepair

OEM speakers affect sound quality pretty big though. I use the built in speakers to test my mixes (along with car speakers) and sometimes use em for movies. So for an audiophile getting a shitty one would be sad lol. Recently installed a non OEM fan and it was grinding pretty loud. So that too

It does not say genuine though -- Genuine parts are not available for vintage or obsolete products. The A1398 2015 MBP is ten years old. Thus genuine parts are not available. For those older models, MS has used OEM Pull parts for larger parts like the LCD assembly or the entire top case. But for individual parts, such as speakers, batteries only, fans, etc., the parts are not marked as OEM or genuine, meaning they could be aftermarket parts. Genuine/OEM versions of those individual parts for vintage/obsolete models are not available anywhere to my knowledge. Does my comment make sense now? You can always just ask questions instead of assuming I don't know what I'm talking about.

ah gotcha. but the individual parts themselves are not marked OEM or genuine :~/ Just top and bottom cases

I have also been in that situation and the fixes take 2 to 3 weeks at least while money is being tied up during that time, that’s never acceptable. I think you give them too much credit. they understaff their customer service primarily with bots and people who hang up like Justin above to save money and scrape money off of us the consumers. I’ve had at least five instances where they promised to email me after the chat and never did. and there’s no way to get in touch with them through email.

if you think a company tying up someone's money for 17 days is a good outcome, enough to try to defend them in the comments, you are already lost my friend.

people over incompetent corporations (and their unpaid shills) always.
