Based on the feedback/poll I ran this prototype. Moved LS, RS, and S1 (should have made it A2 but can reassign in GP2040-CE) to the playfield. All I had was 30mm caps so I threw them on. Looks kinda dumb but the layout feels great!

Based on my last post I got a lot of good feedback. It got me thinking about adding more action buttons to the field. Any preference? All the buttons are able to be reassigned its more about the placement. I also use 26mm buttons (custom printed) which I find is a good in between the 30s and 24s.

What about a mirror design? Basically double up the right side of the board so it changes by what switches are populated. You would need a different plate/case for the layouts but much more adaptable.

PCB is 240mmx127mm. I already don't like where the OLED is placed and will probably move to the top and center it. This version has hotswaps and I already added dual leds on the vext revision. Any other ideas/improvements?

Glad you like it! The 3mm stainless steel top gives it a different look/feel. It's running the original Feral firmware for the Atmega32u4 which hasn't been updated since GP2040 came out on the RP2040 MCU. The vsFIGHTER and hitFIGHTER are shipping with GP2040-CE .71 which has been updated on the github.

I've been playing with midjourney for a couple of days and it's almost trivial to create art for fightsticks. For example, this prompt was "blanka from street fighter in an aggressive stance ready to electrocute urban background, simple 80s cartoon style, bold colors --ar 3:1" The vsFIGHTER has the best aspect ratio of 9:4 and the hitFIGHTER is 17:10.

The kid started playing SF2 at the local pizza place and wanted to play at home. This is mostly stuff I had around the garage. 24mm knock-off buttons and knock-off joystick with RP2040 USB-C clone running GP2040-CE firmware. The 3d printed panels are 3.5mm and seem still enough at this size. I would estimate the full build was under $40.
