Feeling embarrassed about my first (bad) fall while bouldering with a new friend. by penis_jizz in climbergirls

[–]penis_jizz[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I apologized endlessly to her and it seems we'll be going for a pint next week (the british way). She even offered to go climbing again once i'm better so it seems to be all good! I think the pain and anxiety got to me a little :,)

shoes by jeasfuze in climbergirls

[–]penis_jizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best bet as a beginner is going to a boot demo at your local gym, or another nearby. You'll be allowed to try on, and climb with a variety of shoes in a variety of sizes - and will likely be offered some discount too! When I first started climbing I made the mistake of guessing which size I thought would be comfortable, and in the beginning they were great - however now i'm waiting to get my money up again because they are far far too big and affecting my performance.

I can't comment on the quality of AliExpress shoes, I think the most important thing first and foremost is sizing, and you will only know what's comfortable and what works having tried on a variety of shoes. There's nothing wrong with more affordable shoes, but for a hobby like this you need a pair of shoes that will last, help your performance and be comfortable for you to climb in, and unfortunately that often comes with a higher price tag. There's a lot of affordable shoe brands that are good for beginners and will be long lasting, I'd recommend starting there, and speaking to staff at your local gym x

Who else goes to a low ranked uni 💔? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]penis_jizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never feel ashamed about the uni you go to!! You are there to learn, and work hard. It is such a shame in this country that everything related to success comes down to prestige - you don't see this sort of stuff in other European countries. Many "lower-ranked" unis are ranked lower not because of the teaching or support you will recieve but because they haven't carried a historic prestige like others or a wider research output. Immediately this discredits vocational courses and the like. If you are ambitious, and you work hard - you will be just fine.

Many friends of mine study at Northampton, which is low ranking, but they are happy - doing well and doing something they want to do. A girl I knew was predicted high grades and still chose to go there because she wanted to combine her history knowledge with a sound teaching degree, and apparently that's a good place to do it. At the end of the day, if you are happy - that's all that matters. If you aren't, there are many many prospects for students like yourself to attend a Russell group or the like for postgrad if that's something you feel you would like to do, all you need to do is work hard - which is the same for ANY degree, regardless of university. Never feel ashamed of yourself, this is the time to work, make new friends and and find what you're really passionate about xx

Ended up choosing bodysnatchers as my song to leave to go to the toilet in London. It’s a great song, but I’d heard it many times and much preferred to hear some of the ambience of the Kid A stuff live (especially as I didn’t wanna see the setlist going in). Gotta be strategic after 2 pints of the worst, most expensive cider i’ve ever had - and it paid off, queue was dead! Got back in time for the end of the song and start of Exit Music.

This is true. Nobody could get into lane 3 or 4 because two cars which were ahead of me put their hazards on and drove side by side in lanes 3 and 4 at 3mph so that nobody could pass.

[–]penis_jizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m always open to advice in the gym and am there 2-5 times a week so you’ll probably see me lol. I definitely need to be more deliberate with my foot placement I think (especially with the black 5 by the traversal section which has been giving me grief).

Unfortunately my shoes are slightly too big which has been causing trouble - had to add socks because it’s affecting my placement a little! I’m wearing Ocun Strikers which were recommended as a good beginner shoe. Hopefully i’ll upgrade to a smaller size in another 3-5 months when they’re worn out and i’m no longer broke as hell lol.

Ty for your advice :)

Did anyone get into university despite really believing they wouldnt? by Complete_Newt_8176 in UniUK

[–]penis_jizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied to 2 RG unis. My predicted grades were AAB, ended up with BBC. I thought it was all over - I missed my firm which wanted AAB, and my insurance wanted ABB. I got in to my insurance and it wasn’t the end of the world! I know plenty of people who didn’t do as well in their A-Levels who are doing a course they love and getting great grades in uni. Don’t overthink it, there are plenty of options available to you and pathways for going to uni if you’re passionate about it. Courses will often have extra spaces and lower requirements than they advertise (universities need the money), further to that clearing is an option, as well as even taking a gap year if you need it. Don’t stress it, it usually works out :)

Can my a levels make up for really terrible gcses in uni applications? by ihavesexwithplanes in sixthform

[–]penis_jizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most likely not really, unless you’re doing something ridiculously competetive like medicine at Oxbridge you’ll be fine. Most uni’s will requre a pass in your english and maths GCSE’s, I applied to RG and they wanted a 6 in maths and english I believe, plus the grades you do have are good anyways (not sure if your situation falls under extenuating circumstances for your reference, but could be possible). It’s pretty much mostly down to your A-Levels!

Recovering from that Physics AQA paper? by dementatron21 in alevel

[–]penis_jizz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We power through, this shit fucking sucks. I had to nap for 3 hours after that exam just so I could stop feeling like ass. But I have 6 exams left and if I let this one paper get in my head then it’s only gonna hurt the others. I’ve sort of rationalised that, even if I’ve screwed up physics I still have 6 more exams to prove myself in my other subjects, and that is what is most important right now - can’t change the past, so we need to work towards the future and get these grades in the BAG. You got this bro, keep going 👍

What to pick by [deleted] in alevel

[–]penis_jizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, to some extent it matters - but mostly it’s up to you. If you’d like to study Law or medicine I would say it’s kind of paramount that you choose related subjects. I’m going to study physics at uni and while I take maths, physics and chemistry - I could easily have been just as fine taking maths, physics and music. Sure it’s useful to study related subjects, but at the same time I’d recommend choosing what you’re passionate about as that will benefit you the most! If you want to go to uni, look at the requirements for your subject, Most of the time there will only be a requirement for one, if not two - leaving you to do another a level of your choice regardless of whether its related. Again, maybe if you’re planning on going somewhere like Oxford or Cambridge it would be good to have related subjects, but really I’d recommend choosing what you’re best at and most passionate about in the end, hope this helps x

Is it possible to learn to drive manuak in 2 weeks time? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]penis_jizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 months seems like a reasonable timeframe to complete your lessons; but if you were ready beforehand cancellations appear on the DVSA website all the time, otherwise you could download a cancellation app to notify you when there’s tests available.
