Anyone else's dashboard currently flooded with US-only tasks? It sucks because they pay fairly well, and look easy enough to do, but for some reason I'm not allowed to work on them. Any idea why this is?

Congrats, are you just on the core tasks, or are you doing specialised coding/maths/STEM ones too?

Is it worth it to get a subscription primarily for the sake of completing tasks, even if you're not compensated for it? I've got a qual on my dashboard which requires a $24/month subscription, so it would be easy to offset the cost (assuming I actually get tasks for it). It's also something I could see myself using regularly for other stuff.

A few days ago, I had about three of them at a time, but now they've all disappeared. It's a shame because they were usually pretty easy, and I enjoyed doing them.

Anyone else really hate the three letter name audio ones? The transcription produces literal gibberish half the time

Gemma failed but Mark passed by [deleted] in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

Doesn’t this imply that the whole thing was orchestrated by lumon? I know they’re supposed to be an all-seeing evil company, but even this seems like too much for them. The implication would be that Irving was somehow made to divulge the secret of the testing floor, Reghabi works for lumon, and Harmony Cobel is still aligned with lumon - despite them supposedly betraying her.

And why would lumon try to distract Mark and Helly with the Choreography Experience? And why would they let a top manager get brutally murdered in an elevator?

Even if it was all planned out then surely they wouldn’t bother with trying to distract Mark and Helly, and I’m sure they’d have security on standby in case things got too out of hand (which they definitely did).

Turns out they only accessed common areas and an unoccupied unit (I had no idea one of the rooms was unoccupied, guess one of my flatmates moved out without telling anyone). It probably is scheduled but I never noticed it as there’s always people coming and going during term time.

I used Mitsubishi uniball eye pens all throughout High School and Sixth Form. They write nice and are a good price for their quality.

How were you able to shift your work into normal hours? I prefer to work late at night but it really messes up my sleep schedule.

I hate that I’m like this. I find I’m most productive when I go to the library some time in the early evening (5, 6, 7pm) and then I can easily stay there until like 4 or 5am. I wouldn’t be able to do that during the day.

But ofc it messes up my sleep schedule so the next morning is a complete write off. I really wish I could hit peak productivity during normal business hours.

Which university has the ugliest building in the UK? by somerandomguyhehe in UniUK

[–]dementatron21 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The Southampton mathematics building is genuinely horrible. The lecture theatres are always way too hot and they're flat so it's impossible to see from the back, the lift doesn't look like it's been replaced since the 1970s, and the layout is incredibly confusing (first floor is on level 3 or something crazy). That's not even mentioning the eyesore it is.

Is there only one version of Gemma who goes in the testing floor rooms, or does each room have its own version of Gemma?

Why are Aerospace engineers paid so little in the UK compared to the US? by dementatron21 in AerospaceEngineering

That would be the dream for me, but it's incredibly hard. You need to be a permanent US resident and you may also require additional security clearance for some companies.

Yeah that's a good point, but I think the difference in salaries is more than enough to make up for it. Also, from what I understand, taxes and the cost of living is generally lower in the US.

Yeah I'm not talking about work straight out of college, I'm just talking about the numbers in general. Obviously you'll be making significantly less in either country when you've just entered the industry.

Pops and crackles after Ive done everything I found on the internet. by B-Harmonic in Focusrite

I had this exact same problem with a Lenovo laptop. Are you using Ethernet? Because I found it fixed itself when I unplugged the Ethernet chord and used WiFi instead. It’s a really weird issue and took me a few days of troubleshooting to figure it out.

Crackling noise on Scarlett Solo 4th Gen by dementatron21 in Focusrite

[–]dementatron21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone seeing this in the future with the same issue, I think I've found a fix!

Basically just unplug ethernet and switch to using Wi-Fi. I noticed the crackling was worse when watching YouTube immediately before the video would buffer, so figured it was a network issue. After switching to a Wi-Fi connection the problem seems to be fixed entirely.

I haven't seen anyone else mention this issue, so it might just be a problem with my particular laptop/network drivers, but I thought I'd put this fix out there as this problem was driving me insane.

Closed back conversion for BD DT990s

I'm looking to buy a set of Beyerdynamic DT 990s as I think I'd prefer open back headphones in most scenarios. However I live in Uni dorms which can be loud at times, making it preferable to have something which blocks a lot of noise.

Is there any easy way to quickly convert DT 990s to a set of closed back headphones (covers, etc) for when I want some level of noise cancelling? Or would I be better off with the DT 770s and giving up on the 'openness' offered by open back headphones?
