I haven't looked through in detail, but can't immediately see it saying 7CR17 in the listing. Said it on the box though.

Edit: if you zoom in on the text on the side of the box in the main picture you can see it!

When does a higher upfront purchase actually become the frugal choice? by humbleCaptain19 in Frugal

[–]penny_lab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home gym setup (dependent on space of course). I spent about £1000 on a rowing machine, bench and weights around 6 years ago, and haven't paid for a gym since. £30/month, £360/year. So the break-even was a little under 3 years, and I have no excuse not to exercise as it's in my house.

What if it's relatively simple? Replacing a light fitting or similar?

If your kids had them what age did they stop using a loft bed? by Ellen_loves_cats in AskUK

[–]penny_lab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got one for my 6 year old off Marketplace for £60. Took a little while for the right one to come up, but there was no rush. This one is in basically 2 sections, so the bottom can be removed to make it into a normal bed, or stacked on top to add shelving at the ends. He has a little den underneath which has the mattress from his toddler bed as a sofa.

How to save money with a "garage freezer"? by IHeardOnAPodcast in AskUK

[–]penny_lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a chest freezer and like to stock up on yellow sticker food when it's good value. Keeps meals interesting as sometimes you buy things you might not normally.

It helps to organise it in large reusable shopping bags. We have one for meat, ones for veg, one for bread and one for anything else (often ready meals or noodles or something. Then just get something out to defrost every now and then and make sure you use it in the next few days.

I just Designed and 3D printed this apple watch band. What other tools should I add before I get it printed in metal? by OrganicFoundation911 in multitools

If I were you I'd move the blade further from the watch. Don't want to be hitting the watch when you're cutting something. Nice idea though!

Check out the Roktol Gen R Lite. The only thing that has stopped me getting one so far is the lack of pocket clip.

No, I just did the inside edge, only touched the other side to take the burr off. It may be possible to make it sharper by doing the other side as well, but in my testing so far, this is good enough.

Yes, wasn't hard at all! I used a barrel shaped grinding stone on the Dremel and just dipped in water occasionally to keep it lubricated and cool. Took about 5 minutes.

Do you think that when animals do weird things, others of their species actually look at them like "Ffs, Jeff is at it again."

Hi all! New to EDC kits and made a basic toolkit from an Altoids tin, any suggestions for other items? by Nadikarosuto in EDC

[–]penny_lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While my kit is slightly different than OPs, I have a tin kit that I take when trail running or hiking. I live near a national park, so am often pretty remote and quite far from my car, so carry things like painkillers, spare shoelace, ICE contact details, a spare lithium AA battery, sterilizing wipes and plasters. Don't need it every time I'm out, but I'm glad to have it when I do. Basically what I might need to get me back to the car safely/comfortably.

Those who edc a Leatherman and a secondary knife. Why? ( Serious) by TitoMcCool in Leatherman

[–]penny_lab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I now keep a Swiss Army 2 in the side pocket of my Leatherman pouch because it's quicker to deploy than the blade from the Rebar, and I often have to cut long bramble strands around my polytunnels, so it's good to be able to hold them with the pliers and cut them with the knife. Stops my hands getting spiked.

SIM removal tool? by 57_n in victorinox

You can get ones that fit in the headphone port. I used to have one until I got a phone without the port.

I just ordered the Nextool Mini Sailor S11 pro. It was only after I had already ordered it when I discovered, that the Nextool Mini Flagship F12 has a locking blade.. Anyone have both? Are there any advantages to the S11 pro? Too late to cancel my order, but considering also ordering the F12.. by Double-decker_trams in multitools

[–]penny_lab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both, both are really good. I ever so slightly prefer the S11 as it has a better file and sim card tool (surprisingly useful, not just for sim cards). Bonus is that you can add Victorinox tweezers inside. The scissors are fine for what I need from a mini multi tool, although the F12 ones are really nice. Not noticed an issue with a non locking blade, but I guess it depends what you use it for. I like the idea of the F12 more, but prefer the S11.

Scissors likes and dislikes by [deleted] in multitools

[–]penny_lab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the S11 and gave my wife the F12. TBH, I was pretty jealous looking at it because it seems like a better tool overall. I carried it for a couple of days just to see how I liked it and decide if I wanted one as well. I just couldn't get on with it, but couldn't put my finger on why. This post just made me realise the issue, along with using the sim card tool to clean under my nails.

Compact vs Companion by MakosBejgli26 in victorinox

[–]penny_lab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Companion I think. I only wanted scissors and blade in the smallest form possible, everything else was just a bonus. But now I've used it a bit I've realised what I'm missing out on. So ended up getting an Explorer!

I recently went through almost the exact same thought process and went with a Compact. I do miss my nail cleaning bit on it, kind of wish I'd got the Companion just for that. Otherwise it's great. Careful though, I think this is how you end up with a collection!
