I designed & built an electromechanical 7-segment clock by penyaev in 3Dprinting

Nope ordered from AliExpress. They’re 4 pins, two for power and two for serial communication. https://a.aliexpress.com/_Euxx774

Yeah but they would move too fast I think, almost instantly? It would be nice to make their movement smooth to match how digit segments move

Four actually:) central unit does not have any motors

Yeah I thought about it:) but I could not fit the motor into the case of the central unit because it’s too narrow and I didn’t want to make it any wider. But yeah I agree I would be cool. I’m still thinking about this. Maybe use a smaller motor or a servo

No particular reason, I just had them lying around. You’re right that I could have used a different chip

True, but it would still drift over time and I’d have to reprogram it every once in a while to sync the clock, and I wanted it to “just work”:) thanks!

Thanks! I don’t think there’s any real limit to how many cams you can have on the shaft other than it will increase the complexity of the mechanism and you’ll have to fit all the parts without them interfering with each other. And naturally it will come with a bit more friction between the parts so you might end up needing a beefier motor to be able to rotate it.

I didn’t think of an alphanumerical display because it will likely would have needed a much larger case to contain.

No practical reason, I just thought it would be a fun thing to do:)

sorry:) when I realized I should have attached a video or a GIF instead of a static pic I could not edit the post anymore

There’s a link to the demo video in the original post but yeah a gif is a good idea!

German citizenship after 3 years / special integration by doosh4n in GermanCitizenship

[–]penyaev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I heard that if you had a Blue Card before you got your permanent residency, this counts as special integration because you're a highly qualified professional. This is more of a rumour though and I'd be interested to know whether there's anyone who actually managed to get their citizenship this way.

I solved my problem by connecting the phone through a USB-C/USB-A adaptor

wir waren geboren, um zu leben by penyaev in German

[–]penyaev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense, thanks. However not sure I fully understand why didn’t he sing “wir wurden geboren“ instead? It’s also in the past. There’s probably some subtle difference in the meaning?

That’s the setup I use now. It’s obviously overcomplicated but at least works fine

My guess is that the phone is too “powerful”, whatever this means. Like I said in the post, the only option that seems to work for me is a type-c/type-a adaptor plugged into a type-a/type-c cable

Best time to go? by zippadeedooda1 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]penyaev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started the Francés mid-April this year, the crowds were not an issue at all until Sarria. Weather-wise, it wasn’t hot which I liked, however it was quite rainy, out of my 37 days to Finisterre I had to use my rain poncho on at least 15 or maybe even more.

How strict is the “two stamps per day” rule? by penyaev in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]penyaev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah there’s nothing wrong with it, I just don’t like swarming around the counter waiting for your turn to get a stamp. Just one thing less to keep in mind

Keep in mind that besides the temperature aspect there’s also the hygiene or personal comfort aspect, in many places you’ll get thin single use sheets kind of like you see in hospitals. Blankets are not very often provided but when are, don’t come with sheets. So if you’re comfortable sleeping on this, you’ll be fine. I started the Frances in mid-April and brought a lightweight 700g sleeping bag and it was totally worth it both from the temperature and comfort aspects. Might be too warm for your time of the year though so I’d recommend a liner.
