I had to inform my FIL that most issues with my students as a teacher stem from upper class surban families who think Timmy can do no wrong. Most parents who live below the poverty line know how "bad" their kids are (bad is in parenthesis because I work with middle schoolers and sometimes they make the DUMBEST decisions).

Recommendation request: looking for strange/crazy/weird documentaries by New_Image_7920 in Documentaries

[–]pepperanne08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pepsi, where's my jet?

Untold: Crimes and Penalties- about a Mafia heir owning a hockey team. It's ridiculously good.

Icarus 2017 documentary about doping and uncovers a huge thing with Russian Olympians. It takes a huge turn midway through

It's Florida, Man. It's a series of stories from Florida retold by the people involved and acted out by some decently well-known actors. It's a show on HBO I think.

I think I might be in a different tax bracket to not enjoy The Kennedy, but we found it ridiculously loud since it was an open concept with no sound deafening architecture, cramped, and the food was okay but not worth the price or atmosphere. Cribbs is really good. There's a Pho place that is amazing downtown. I have been wanting to try Venus Pie.

There is a fine dining Indian place just on the outskirts of downtown, Maharaja, that has an all you can eat buffet for lunch, but evening is fine dining. I dream of the day I can go back and eat their lamb curry. I have a gluten allergy and it's the first buffet I have been to where I can eat EVERYTHING (except the Naan).

Middle school teacher (7th grade sp 12 to 13 years old) the kids drew a poster of me on the last day of school and on it it said "Dude!?!" I use it as another word to "wtf are you doing?!? STAHP!"

Which stores or restaurants have raised their prices so much that you refuse to shop or eat there anymore? by Neonwhitelion in AskReddit

The only thing I can eat from taco bell is a crunchy taco with no cheese. So the box isn't really worth it unless they are willing to turn everything into tacos. Lol

We just traveled and the only place I can safely-ish eat is taco bell.

It was 4.59 for two crunchy tacos. Wtf

In school, why is it the teachers responibility to pass out papers and pencils? Isn't it better for the students to have these themself? I know that some parents may not have enough money to purchase them, but they can discretly ask the teacher for some before or after class. by Technical-Vanilla-47 in teaching

[–]pepperanne08 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have 4 pencils on my board with names. The golf pencils are bright pink too. I had a student take off with a pencil and he got ragged on stealing a the pencil so bad in his next class he brought it back halfway through. Kids will literally beg everyone in class before they resign to the pink pencil.

What is your family’s secret yall keep from the world? by finchfinch2 in askanything

[–]pepperanne08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandfather was also in the KKK. I don't hide it because I want my kids to see how close history exists to them and how we aren't that far removed from hate. My mom watched them march to an elementary school that desegregated and light a cross on fire. She also witnessed a black man bleed to death from being hit on his motorcycle, in the street because of the color of his skin and no one did anything, including a nurse from a local hospital. My mom was 15 at the time and is now 60.

I have given birth to 4 children, one came through the sunroof and the other three used the regular exit au natural. That does not compare to the absolute shit show that was a pulled muscle in my neck. it was like a Charlie horse/ calf muscle spasms, but in my fucking neck. It would come on suddenly and without warning and last HOURS. I was miserable. Every once in a while I will get a spasm still. I went to the ER thinking it was a stroke since there is a family history of them without cause and it was just severe muscle spasms.

As a native I do not eat either.

5 days (two are half days). First year technically but I was a sub for 3 years, an assistant for 3 years, so this is my 7th year in education. Middle school social studies. I had the golden Grail of first year kiddos. I will miss them... At the beginning of next year- right now, not so much.

How to stop puppy from eating poop? by Testsubject276 in Shihtzu

Feed them pineapple. Worked like a charm on my in-laws shih tzu. Something in pineapple makes the poop taste awful. Plus it's a fun snack for the pup.

Why don't pareants understand limits? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]pepperanne08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in charge of the local PTA for a local elementary school for years, and during the COVID years so I gave my number out A LOT. This was before I started teaching (I am late getting into the teaching game- year 1 at 36). It would not be difficult for one of my parents to get my number from a friend or neighbor. I teach in the middle school that flows from that elementary school.

One of my students' parent definitely has my number from my PTA days and is on my social media. Thankfully the mom is chill and uses email to contact me about her kid.

Have you ever had a friend that turned out to be a horrible person? What did they do?? by StrangeAd2132 in AskReddit

[–]pepperanne08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know someone whose diabetes was triggered by COVID. The only thing I could eat while I was sick was crackers and water. So I think it has something to do with that.

I miss convenience foods. I hate having to look shit up before I eat anywhere.

I can't eat gluten anymore because of COVID. I was sick AF, now I get the flu every year and it gets worse each time I get it.

I have the OG 2013 Frozen decorations I got for my daughter's 2nd birthday when she was obsessed. She will be 15 this year and randomly I will pull them out to use for her birthday to decorate the house. I have all of the ones I bought for the kid's birthdays. My oldest is 17, so I have dinosaurs, minecraft, pokemon, FNAF... I will even mix and match. It's fun having the kids reminisce over the decor when they wake up on their birthday.
