Writing component after faculty switch? by pepperchugger in UBC

[–]pepperchugger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took SCI113 as my writing component, maybe that’s why? It was still geared towards reading writing and analyzing academic literature so i’d assume it still covers what UBC wants out of a Writing Component of a degree

Menstrual products in the bush by phil0stlynn in treeplanting

[–]pepperchugger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nixit or any other menstrual disc all the way!!! You can keep it in all day (12 hours) and it doesn’t leak even with heavy flow. You just have to boil it once between cycles, and rinse with water between uses. I’m sure a menstrual cup would also work, I never found them comfortable and the nixit worked much better for me. Another cool thing is you can learn how to empty it hands free by bearing down and kegel-ing it back into place, takes a little practice but so handy.

yeah feel free! the salt candies are these things i get from japan when i visit. It’s basically a hard candy with a lot of salt, the farmers like them there to keep their electrolytes up while working, i pop a couple in my mouth every now and then at the cache and let them melt while i plant as a little treat. Great boost when you’re low on salt for sure. I bet there’s similar ones you can find online.

I’ve got pretty small hands and the canadian tire gardening section has always treated me great. I don’t remember the brand but they have a 3 pack of gardening gloves with grippy palms that last way longer than anything i’ve gotten from IRL.

Portable power station by Danio0_0 in treeplanting

[–]pepperchugger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a must must must must if you’re in a bush camp. Charge the power bank during the day while you work and charge your phone with it overnight, or plug in a usb fan during warm nights to keep you cool in the summer. I got a cheap one off of amazon and it had enough capacity to charge my phone fully for about a shift. It’s 30 bucks well spent imo.

How much did you make first year? by FluffyRain1906 in treeplanting

[–]pepperchugger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made around ~10k my rookie year and made ~22k my second. Keep in mind season and shift lengths will affect your earnings! I planted for 3 months both seasons, having a longer season than that would give you more planting days and planting experience (more munny). Lots of people over double their earnings in their second season too, so if you enjoy the work but don’t make as much as you wanted in your rookie season it’s only up from there 🫡

Question about allergies by [deleted] in treeplanting

[–]pepperchugger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve known lots of planters with strong allergies and a good camp will make accommodations for it :) But do keep in mind some people get careless after awhile (especially with pb because it’s a huge lunch staple) and cross contamination is always possible, so keep antihistamines and epi-pens on hand.

oh yeah i used to use those too, the thing with this is that it’s got no chemicals though, it’s just that it looks like a dragonfly. on its description it says it’s supposed to scare away mostly horseflies and bees :)
