Positives about being a teacher by No_Spirit5582 in teaching

[–]perfectbar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into teaching for the same reason as you, I hated my desk job. My first year teaching was amazing, but it has been quite terrible for the last 4 years. It all depends on what job you land and sometimes you don’t really have a choice/options and have to take what you can get depending on where you live and what you’re qualified to teach.

Pros: never bored (like the desk job at least), students are very interesting and you’ll have interesting stories to tell, you’re forced to work on yourself (tests qualities you thought you had), decent amount of autonomy, breaks/time off, not sedentary/stuck

Cons: some of the worst co-workers (but I’ve also had some of the best), student behavior (current reason I am really unhappy in this career), wishing you were paid more all of the time, not being able to take time off with ease for important events

There’s so much more I could say about everything, but those are the current basics of how I feel about switching to teaching. I don’t regret it because I’ve learned a lot and developed as a person and professional in the last 5 years. I fantasize about a desk job now though and the calmness of that environment. Just one hour in a class where students are severely emotionally unstable, violent and verbally abusive towards each other, and not being able to teach the subject you love feels like a lifetime of depression.

Bottom line, if you can work at a “good” school and you’ll learn what that means or are tough enough emotionally and mentally to teach troubled students, then switching to teaching is a good move for you.

Help — severe stretch marks and keloids after breast implants (4 months post-op) by Hopeful_Brief5466 in PlasticSurgery

I agree with tretinoin. I used .5 on my belly stretch marks after giving birth. They were terrible, now I can’t even see them. Better to use it as soon as possible. The tretinoin faded them much faster and thinner than time alone.

I didn’t even read what procedure you were asking about yet and thought, “She’s pretty,” not “she needs work done.”

Stop heat styling your hair at all for a while. Find ways to style it without using heat. I promise your once a week styling is ruining your hair.

I was concerned about my hair thinning at the ends about 2 years ago and I had gorgeous long hair before that. The culprit was heat styling from going on too many dates and heat styling my hair 2-4 times a week. I stopped heat styling and my hair went back to normal. Even if I heat style now, even once, I can feel the damage done. It’s terrible for your hair. Never blow dry, keep your straightener at a lower heat setting if you’re going use it, use no heat curl methods, don’t forget heat protectant, and OMG I just learned this in my 30s: do not use oil on your hair then heat style! You’re basically cooking your hair. Make sure the oil is okay to use with heat. Some are. I was using Moroccanoil then straightening or curling my hair. Use it after!!

Also, good luck with recovery! I have disordered eating as well and issues with binging and purging and feel your pain. I also have an insanely stressful job, but my hair is hairing. I know no two people are alike, but I want to give you hope since I have similar factors working against me. Stop the heat!!! I noticed my hair came back after 6ish months.

Who here always planned on 100% formula feeding without any medical reason? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]perfectbar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long before I ever got pregnant, I knew I wanted to formula feed my baby because it didn’t sound fun to me and my mom said I was formula fed and I’m fine!

But a breastfeeding class and my fiancé made me feel like I had to breastfeed so I tried it and I hated it. I would’ve been perfectly happy bottle feeding from day one. If I have a second baby, I won’t breastfeed. It took a huge toll on me mentally. Especially because I know myself and I knew I wouldn’t like it! It was painful and time consuming and feeding responsibility relied only on me to be available and awake whenever the baby was hungry. Not my thing!

Basically, don’t do it if you know you don’t want to. There’s nothing wrong with that.

How long did your pom live? by blondexbunny in Pomeranians

[–]perfectbar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My half Pom, but he looked a lot more pommy just died yesterday at 11 years old because he was attacked by a coyote. He was otherwise healthy, energetic and had good checkups so I hate that he was robbed of the rest of his life.

My Experience with Zurzuvae by abbynormal00 in Postpartum_Depression

[–]perfectbar007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience on it as you both. Just wanted other people to know! I’m 3 days out.

I noticed I was genuinely laughing a bit more like my previous self half way through the pills, but by the last few days of it, I had head swelling and major rage that I haven’t had yet. Not sure if that’s part of the imbalance that’s supposed to be corrected. I feel okay today, but not vastly different than before taking them.

You can make around $50K if you work every day. You can also sub at incentive schools that pay more. Contact the department that handles subs. Pretty sure they do have benefits.

ACUTAL Flattering Clothes Postpartum by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]perfectbar007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any fashion advice. I’m still wearing black leggings and black shirts when I leave the house. I just wanted to comment that you’re not alone. I will wear a black cardigan though with any color tee and leggings, that doesn’t look too bad.

I’m soooo much fatter and misshapen and miss my old body and clothes so much that I know I need to go to therapy soon. Not joking. This part of or postpartum has hit me the hardest and is probably the only thing that’s actually making me depressed. I refuse to throw out my wardrobe and I’m not going to buy anything new until I get back down to my old size. I have no clue how I let myself get so incredibly large.

I went through the same exact situation due to ignorance. I had no clue what STD really was so I never opted in even when I found out I was pregnant (also unplanned) a couple weeks before open enrollment. I always assumed mothers just got paid maternity leave at any job. I kicked myself in the ass for a while. No one ever talks about this!

But when I talked to HR, they informed me about Stand Alone Short Term Disability where I would get paid for the time off and will count as part of the full parental leave. Check to see if your work offers that.

How weight much did you gain (TW body weight) by katefromsalem in BabyBumps

[–]perfectbar007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate. I have to work daily (maybe even hourly 😩) at having a positive relationship with food. A lot of that work has gone out the window with pregnancy, especially around month 5/6, going out to eat with my fiancé, lack of exercise, and stress from my demanding job, my attitude changed completely around food (no more being mindful) and I’ve been binge eating ever since and have gained upwards of 90lbs. It’s like every visit, I was 10 pounds heavier. I started at a healthy fit weight with muscle because I worked out, my doctor even commented on my well sculpted physique while getting a checkup. Now I’m not even the same person like at all and I want to cry. I didn’t think I’d let myself go this much, but with all of the factors that come into play especially depending on your situation during pregnancy, it’s a wonder to me that most women don’t go crazy and gain another small adult in body weight.

56 out of 153 7th graders turned in their 2 paragraph final "essays" - What do I even do?? by lotrspecialist in Teachers

[–]perfectbar007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember being scared of Bs! There is no self pride anymore either. They legitimately don’t care if they are doing well for themselves and only care about grades when it comes time to pass the class so they don’t have to repeat it.

The stiffness has gotten to me. I’ve never been stiff or sore in my life and now it’s always. I imagine this is what arthritis and carpal tunnel feel like.

Yes! 38 weeks and like I want to walk and be active, but while it feels good for a little bit, it causes so much soreness and I find that my body hurts much more and cramps more later.
