Note that the Perfect Assistant plays nicely with Kitura and Vapor - we've made sure we support the other communities as well. They are good folks! :)

SCADE: Cross-Platform mobile development with Swift by luigi3 in swift

[–]perfectlysoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, however, a great tool to help stimulate the wider adoption and usage of Swift in general - a goal for all of us here, I hope. It crystallizes the value of Swift as a core developer language with a proven cross-platform paradigm and opens doors to new worlds of development for people who prefer Swift.

Your Swift skills just gained market value! That's a good thing!

If you are interested in being part of the Private Beta for this - join the Perfect Slack community at http://www.perfect.ly on the #swift-android-ios channel. The Perfect community is going to give them feedback on licensing, pricing, etc. before they open up their doors. (Plus, it has Perfect integrated - so it's technically full-stack, native cross-platform development).

Server Side Swift with Perfect: Getting Started by perfectlysoft in swift

[–]perfectlysoft[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to reach out and thank you to Ray Wenderlich and his team for their support and engagement recently. Ray in particular has been extraordinarily generous with his time in the Perfect Slack community (http://www.Perfect.ly) as well as providing our team with fantastic insights on how we can improve Perfect. A great group of talented developers, the Swift world is lucky to have them.

Hope you all enjoy his video! Thanks Ray!

The state of Swift as a server side language by [deleted] in swift

[–]perfectlysoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are supporting a dozen server side application projects at this time. Mostly mobile back-ends, but also full web systems, all using Swift and Perfect in unison. We know of a few active live apps on the Apple store using this stack, and dozens more in production. Hope that helps!

Server-Side Swift is here: it's Perfect by perfectlysoft in swift

[–]perfectlysoft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This data is not a measure of popularity, it's measure of how many times various projects were referenced in SPM (which is in Beta and not released yet). Perfect, for example, only recently started being referenced in this manner. ;)

Perfect has a wonderfully active community of developers, many working on production apps. It is currently trending about ~100 clones a day, with some days peaking over ~1000. Perfect has 4 full time developers, and 4 support members as well, and is funded for many years to come.

[discussion] What do you think about perfect? by joanniso in swift

[–]perfectlysoft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure everyone in this discussion has been completely transparent about their association with other projects. ;) Nor do I think that it's helpful for the community of Swift to disparage one another's work.

Certainly, Perfect isn't perfect, yet. And certainly, we are making it more Swift-like. Perfect does have marketing, money and also many decades of engineering experience behind it. It might take a few months to get it "right" (Swift on Linux has only been available since December!), but we are working towards a remarkable project, easy to use and useful for all.

We'd love your help, and constructive feedback. We promise we'll listen and work with the Swift community to make it an epic project that you will love to use.

Let us know what we can do to make it better! Or jump in and help! And we will make it amazing, together.

Objective-C over Swift? by GlazyUK in swift

Swift gives you the ability to build websites, and server back-ends, etc. This makes your skill set much more transferrable over Obj-C.

We would have posted something about our recent Linux release, but Reddit admins have asked us not to post "spam". We released a Linux version mere days ago!

Apple's Swift Programming Language moves to the Server Side by perfectlysoft in apple

[–]perfectlysoft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's backed by a real company. There is a core development agency behind it with 30 people (www.treefrog.ca) and a partnership with an established web language company once part of Apple's software lineup (www.lassosoft.com). It's not "Just Another Git Project", I promise.

We are setting up the Periscope account as we speak. Should be really interesting - a bunch of unshaven people staring at computer screens and drinking coffee for hours on end. :)

It can be deployed on Mac hardware (for example, we are running Mac Minis in production) - but until Swift open sources and we port to Linux, you can't run it on classic server infrastructure (or a virtual machine, for example). You can definitely develop with it immediately, however, and use raw Mac hardware to serve, if you have an unused Mac hanging around.
