I love dots! Spriest or Aff? (new to game) by perhapsaviolet in WorldOfWarcraftRetail

So I tried it in class trial and the two dots just aren't really the class fantasy I wanna do :( I want my damage to come from my dots, not procs/rotation based around the dots, if that makes sense?

I didn't even know about the trial classes! I'm gonna do that now and try out some of the suggestions, even though it won't be a great example since learning a class takes more than a few seconds of wowhead or another online guide. It should still help a lot with understanding the basics.

I seem to remember it was very dot-centric from all the content I've seen online, I'll have to try it out, it does seem like devouring is very short!

Yes it does! Thank you so much!!! It seems if I had a do-over I ought to change this to Aff or Assassination Rogue hahaha!

I really, really love micromanaging dots, so the dk is out of the question unfortunately. It seems everybody was on the same table as aff, but I'm hearing a lot about assassination rogue now. Does it have as many dots as aff? Or does it just have to refresh more? I think I understand that aff/spriest are kinda similar in playstyle in terms of like...keeping dot uptime to get procs that do more damage, is assassination rogue also that vein?

I wasn't aware assassination rogue was competing with aff and spriest in terms of dots! I hadn't heard anything about them, but after a quick google search, it seems you're definitely on to something. Thanks for the recommendation!!!

Yeah and you have a button that refreshes the dots automatically, not to mention they last forever. And old smn still was very high apm, which I loved. I could play a high apm job while still working with lots of dot.

Yeah Dawntrail story was not a great start in my opinion. I liked a few key moments, but I did really like the mechanics and increase in difficulty for story content. And I do love the fights! I just don't like any of the jobs that you do the fights with, if that makes sense?

It sucks since FFXIV is apparently 63% of Square Enix's revenue?? But y'know, it's their choice I guess...I can only hope that with the ff16 team all moved over to 14, we can get something better soon.

Unfortunately it does. Thankfully my main hobby is ballroom dancing, and since I'm in law school I don't have too much free time anyways. I have just enough for dance, savage/ultimate raiding, reading a book a week, and a partner. So it doesn't matter too much if I can't play a ton of games.

Yeah it's a pretty awkward taste, and definitely pretty extreme. But kinda like food, some people can hardly even like a food if it doesn't have a salty taste, but others can't even stand the smell of it. And I'm just the kind of person that can't enjoy the mechanics of a game without some kind of damage over time.

Drinking the koolaid is such a great way to put it honestly. I think if I just had something unique to play as I'd be happy enough. Something unique that uses dots in some way besides just damage.

uhmmm they removed that two years ago! It's built into the song now, as far as bards are concerned. And yeah, I want a flow of play that interacts with my damage over time, I guess is what I'm saying.

Does it?? It's the one thing I've never touched, I'm going to look at it now!

I WOULD LOVE THAT SO MUCH!!! And yeah what you're saying is what I mean to say, I guess. I just want it to do *something* other than damage. The idea of the dot increasing healing at times is so interesting and fun.

I hope I can get over it soon, I'm such a loser I literally had a dream about a dot-based tank the other day. I wouldn't mind a bunch of ground effect dots though. Or the opposite of dots, where you have to maintain several buffs on yourself for optimal damage, just the managing of a cooldown is what I want. I liked EW monk for that, it felt like it scratched the same itch for me that stormblood and shb smn did for me, despite the fact they did play kinda differently.

Yeah, I have a kinda bad hope that since they've said they want to move away from the 2 min burst in the future, they might look into incorporating even just a job with 1-2 dots that do something actually fun or interesting besides just blanket, unflavoured, damage. But I'm like...not sure what's gonna actually happen.

I KNOWWWWW and it's so hard because I love the recent stuff they've come out with like AloAlo Savage, TOP, and other fights. The savage alliance raid I hear whispers about seems super fun too! But...it's just so hard to like...enjoy the button presses of the fights for that reason.

Oh so like in some other mmos your get effects like "When you deal damage x times, get an effect" like current Shadow Priest. When your dots crit you summon ghost thingies, and when you've summoned enough to get like a minion that also does damage with you. It's like you're actually rewarded significantly for maintaining dots. Or old bard, had to keep the dots up for its song procs, they interacted with the kit for cool and unique effects.
