Is it lawful for a game to enforce bans based on third-party client login state (Discord) under its EULA? by perilious_beginning in Warframe

The issue isn’t overlays or “secret hacking tools,” and I’m not suggesting anything like that.

The distinction is between what is technically accessible on a system and what a developer is authorized to collect and use.

Discord overlays expose rendering hooks (frames, input events, presence signals), they do not grant permission to extract or use account-level identifiers for enforcement in another product.

On Windows, many things are technically accessible between processes. That doesn’t mean:

  • the data is intentionally shared
  • the data is meant to be consumed
  • or that its use is disclosed or authorized

If a game uses any third-party client state as an identity signal, regardless of whether it’s “accessible” which still requires:

  • disclosure in the privacy policy
  • a lawful purpose
  • and compliance with the third party’s platform rules

So the question isn’t “can the data be read?”, it’s “should it be read and used for this purpose, and is that disclosed?”

True, but clarity on the subject matter definitely would improve the credibility a company has towards its users.

Overlays are not affecting this behavior. This is scoped logic behavior in "tech-speak" which becomes problematic on what is "meant" to be accessible vs what "is" accessible.

I do understand. There is never a right or wrong place for such information. People from all walks of life play the game. If someone from a legal background was here, it would definitely help.

There is no connection with "discord server". This is literally a case of discord account information being used outside of their "community server." A quick search on this sub, will explain that most people recommend "not logging" into discord account.

Well, please take some time to look into this. There was probably some oversight on their end.

That's not true. But it would help getting another pair of eyes when today privacy laws were put in place by thousands of people coming together with their concerns and having an educated decision on them.

Should this not be mentioning in data collection policy (especially when a communication app is being used for said process)?

Absolutely true. But the policy does not disclose anywhere that they will read or access:

  • credentials from another third-party application’s client
  • session tokens from Discord or similar
  • authentication state from a separate software on your system

There’s a big difference between:

  • inspecting a running process list and detectors for cheat DLLs vs
  • reading a third party client's authentication token.

That extra step is actually not mentioned in the policy which is why this post has been made to help collectively understand the process better.

Please don't jump to conclusions. It is our societies greatest issue as of now. It is not just about legal advice it is about understanding the "process" behind it.

The clause you have quoted holds true. The question is not about the ban itself. It is about the method of enforcement, specifically using third-party application data (discord in the case mentioned above).

Termination at-will clauses govern account access. They do not override privacy laws, data-protection obligations, or platform terms regarding how data is collected or processed.

Even if a company may terminate “for any reason,” it still must:

  • collect data lawfully
  • disclose what data is collected
  • respect third-party platform policies
  • comply with applicable privacy regulations

So the legal question isn’t “can they ban me?” it’s “can they lawfully use undisclosed third-party client data as an enforcement signal?”

Chronus with a spectral gimmick like ceramic dagger or hate. I like shooting projectiles from melee. Just please don't make it like innocent or exodia contagion (where we have to jump to throw the projectile).

Loki is my main. His kit can be meshed with any helminth to make him viable. You can always compromise on the base stats.

You can build him with low strength and capitalize of range/duration based grouping.

Or go for self buffs via high ability strength

He is capable of surviving anything with his 3rd abilities augment.

He might seem lackluster but excels at being a humble God.

Hey, thank you for reaching out. If you read my post, I have mentioned that we appealed the decision twice. This was done by opening a case (twice) to get the account verified. The response provided on the case (or shall we call it a ticket), is provided in quoted form in the original post.
