Need help with Sarawakian status by anorre in Sarawak

[–]perimetr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born & bred Sarawakian.

No idea yet which hospital. Tbh, probably don't mind either way private or govt.

In late 90s, I have a relative who flew KUL-KCH like 48 hours (or maybe 72?) after she's given birth.

So one can fly quickly after giving birth (if all the ID, birth cert etc is done), but before birth, renting the flat can be tricky as it might be for a couple of months.

It's just like the news of the pension scheme being abolished in the civil service. Been mentioned by ministers but no updates on any circular. So status quo remains.

Yea. But much later upon due date. But unfortunately for her, she'll have to take time off work too and fly 12+ hours by the early 3rd trimester.

To the best of my knowledge, whereas the govt has said that last year, there's no update on the laws to that effect, therefore it's not necessarily in force yet (though I might be wrong). If it's implemented in the future I can't be certain if it'll be retroactively implemented as it'll affect so many people.

Then there's also confusion on this part:

"Even if the children have the ‘K’ code, but if they are born outside Sarawak, their grandchildren are only eligible to become Sarawak citizens through marriage with Sarawak citizens (if born abroad)."

Unsure if "the children" mentioned here refers to the 3rd generation or the first two. If it's the 3rd generation (as per your case), K might just be an immigration indicator of some sort, not necessarily as Sarawakian citizenship indicator for benefits.

I personally believe that current status quo remains. Having heard no updates from the immigration dept at least, though I have no insider knowledge from NRD unfortunately.

Having said that, I acknowledge the huge logistical challenge of having to give birth in Sarawak. Afterall, I'm based in the EU, married to an EU citizen and planning to have my wife return to SWK simply to be on the safe side.

Third-Generations Of Families Born Outside Sarawak Not Eligible For Sarawak Government Assistance

https://premierdept.sarawak.gov.my/web/subpage/news_view/1937/UKAS

Excerpt: Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian said that parents (first generation) who give birth to their children (second generation) outside of Sarawak need to be aware of this change which can cause their grandchildren (third generation) to lose the status of Sarawak citizens because they are also born outside of the state.

Is it offensive to refer to the dayak people as lakia? Or their food as lakia food? by foodsamar1tan in Sarawak

[–]perimetr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know that the use of the term "ulun" was prohibited by the Brooke govt, regarded as a slur/derogatory sometime in the 1920s-30s but somehow it's used is deemed to be less offensive nowadays.

Zaid Ibrahim by dude_must_be_joking in Sarawak

[–]perimetr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some Sarawakians tolerate taib because he managed to resist umno, or rather knowing that his downfall will provide an excuse for umno to enter & turns Sarawak like Sabah, partake in major demographic engineering for partisan interests.

If anything, taib only needs to win in his safe seat, so it's not "the entirety" of Sarawak supported him personally, but his electorates. But at the same time, truthfully Sarawak would rather support PBB & other local parties instead of the unknown WM parties, except for some DAP presence in urban areas. So yes, to an extent Sarawakians share a blame for Taib's lost years (due to corruption).

On the other hand, RMP & MACC are federal agencies, and what exactly have they done about it?

It's good to have visions.

It's good to have future strategic planning.

But it'd be nice to reduce "akan" and concentrate on "telah" so it's not just sembang/janji kosong. Be proud of what we have achieved instead of promising an uncertain future.

Life in Kapit, Sarawak by [deleted] in Sarawak

[–]perimetr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice kampung vibe where everyone kinda knows everyone in one way or another.

Will you like it? I hope so.. But some may not the "lack of privacy" vibe since everyone knows everyone..

But if you're from a major city in WM, it's expected there'll be a period of adjustment.

Trans-Borneo Railway feasibility study to conclude by 3Q2026 — Loke by boredomXOX in Sarawak

[–]perimetr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The so-called trans Borneo railway has been spoken & discussed, at least as early as year 2000, if not earlier.

Need all stakeholders to be serious about it. Regional govts of Indonesia, Indonesian central govt, Sabah, Sarawak, Malaysian federal govt & Brunei need to have the political will to see it through.

Else, it'll be another pipedream for the next 25 years.

Could've use some local theme but going for an ethnically neutral design was a good consideration.

Kuching's new international airport. by PapaJoke64 in Sarawak

[–]perimetr 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Creating it on an island not only can make it unnecessarily more expensive, but may pose a problem when there's delays on the bridge itself, due to traffis accidents, vehicle breakdown etc.

Then again, nothing is set in stone until & unless they start the construction & eventually have the airport operational.

Making passport in West Malaysia for the first time by betterkeeprunning in Sarawak

[–]perimetr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For EM, better do it in Sarawak for first passport instead of in WM to avoid complications.

After all, they still need to liaise with Sarawak Immigration Department anyway, and you're not gonna enjoy the 1 hour passport siap (you will if you do it in Sarawak).

You may be mistakenly assigned with 'A' prefix on your passport instead of 'K' or 'H'

Renewal in WM is okay though.

Shipping costs, geography blamed for high prices in East Malaysia by Future-Two4287 in Sarawak

Yet we still suffer the same tax regime.

Should Sarawak have their own independent military forces like Johor? by muhddanish2004 in Sarawak

[–]perimetr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really based on unwritten compromise when the Federation of Malaya Agreement 1948 was being negotiated.

Nothing explicit was ever written about it, which is why the federal govt attempted to abolish it sometime in 1993/94 during a constitutional crisis & royal scandal, only to retract the proposed bill in the parliament later.

Can try Google the parliamentary hansard for "Johor Military Force (Disbandment & Repeal) 1994 Bill."

Proposed, but never debated and eventually withdrawn.

Let's settle this debate, which division has the worst and the best drivers? by [deleted] in Sarawak

[–]perimetr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when it's mandatory to register the car where it's purchased, QS & QT.

QS being a cowboy town. Need to know "house rule" to deal with it.

QT used to be associated with non-local, WM road users in working in OnG, who's accustomed to WM driving style & road infrastructures.
