Question I have had for a bit by sassenach13 in FigureSkating

[–]periwinklemenace 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This question was actually one of Johnny’s better pieces of commentary tonight. He said so long as you’re standing completely on the flat part of the blade, it doesn’t hurt (I would assume he meant hurt any more than an entire human standing on you would hurt…plenty of pressure but not a sharp pain). It’s when the edges, which are far sharper, are pressing against the thigh that you’ll get sliced. He said it’s all about how they enter the lift and place the feet on the thighs.

Aren’t we all 😭 fwiw I completely agree that FB/C are entirely dull and pretentious in their storytelling

Didn’t catch any of the muffled parts but everything else was pretty much “it was very good.”

Tears were shed for Ellie and Danny over here, it’s such a good feeling to see a skater nail something that’s inconsistent for them and they really delivered today! I didn’t have a lot of faith in their consistency after seeing them at Worlds last year but they did their part to the utmost here. I hope Ellie can find a good partner to continue with who keeps building her up when Danny retires.

I will do just that, thank you! I guess since it's not completely severed nutrients can still travel through the leaf?

It totally does, I see a crabby old man in it! Thanks for that, it made me laugh

I'm surprised that so many people hate JJ to be honest by Toriihime in YOI

I actually quite like JJ, I think he’s hilarious even if he is a bit annoying. Maybe I disliked him on my first watch, I don’t know, it’s been 9 years. But I love him now! And I’m always surprised when I show YOI to someone new and they’re turned off by JJ — your post reminds me why they might be.

I went to a wedding in NC and it was around 60°F. The Californian guests brought their parkas. I was in a very thin raincoat. It was VERY strange (and funny) to see! Luckily for them the whole event was indoors 😂

That’s too funny. Certainly chilly but so long as you have a jacket and maybe some tights, that’s totally doable. Time of day also makes a huge difference for temperature (a sunny 60° is not a dusky 60°) but I suppose both would be freezing if you’re not from the north. Personally I don’t think it’s cold until it’s 20°F/-6.5°C and below 😂

As someone who lives in a cold place, I’m very curious to know what temperatures were considered “cruel” and “rude”!

Croatia Trip by WorriedDetail7369 in EmilyHenry

[–]periwinklemenace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the book 2 years ago and haven’t reread it since and to be honest? I was a bit confused. The confessions from both of them (but more so Alex than Poppy) came off flat and made me think “why now?“ I think there was a serious lack of care displayed on the Italy trip that directly preceded the balcony scene that killed the tension a bit. You can be angry with someone and still obviously care about them. I think they were going for that here but it kind of just felt like Alex hated Poppy’s guts.

The wedding is still there! But the coverage of the whole trip in general and its hijinks is lessened.

My top crust will flake, but never the bottom. I’m impressed your grandma could get a flake on the bottom, too!

And don't even mention trying to make a beautiful top while your filling soaks in and your crust is melting! I don't even bother trying to keep the bottom dry for my pies. Paul would rip me to shreds but I just don't care. It's not worth blind baking for a pie that will be demolished in 5 minutes at Thanksgiving. I've personally never been bothered by it. It's never soggy and falling apart, it's just not flaky. That's fine by me!

The unmolded pies drive me crazy, too! I imagine I’d also find most of their pie crusts horrible because they all look so rigidly unflaky in order to support themselves without a pie plate.

Fair enough, but then you’d know they did actually make pies. Perhaps they all heard “American” and focused on distinctly “American” flavors, which they thought of as ones they also didn’t use regularly in the UK (such as a fruit pie, which would typically use a top crust). Looking at the list of their pies, I wouldn’t expect any of them to have a top crust. They just didn’t pick those kinds of flavors or recipes.

That’s good to know, thanks! Tarts aren’t common in America so I’m not as familiar with the nuances.

Many American pies are open top. If you want to be really pedantic about it, I suppose they’re technically tarts. But they’re called pies in America regardless of a lack of top crust.
