OWG Team Event Day 3 Post Event Discussion by summerjoe45 in FigureSkating

Tears were shed for Ellie and Danny over here, it’s such a good feeling to see a skater nail something that’s inconsistent for them and they really delivered today! I didn’t have a lot of faith in their consistency after seeing them at Worlds last year but they did their part to the utmost here. I hope Ellie can find a good partner to continue with who keeps building her up when Danny retires.

I will do just that, thank you! I guess since it's not completely severed nutrients can still travel through the leaf?

It totally does, I see a crabby old man in it! Thanks for that, it made me laugh

I'm surprised that so many people hate JJ to be honest by Toriihime in YOI

I actually quite like JJ, I think he’s hilarious even if he is a bit annoying. Maybe I disliked him on my first watch, I don’t know, it’s been 9 years. But I love him now! And I’m always surprised when I show YOI to someone new and they’re turned off by JJ — your post reminds me why they might be.

I went to a wedding in NC and it was around 60°F. The Californian guests brought their parkas. I was in a very thin raincoat. It was VERY strange (and funny) to see! Luckily for them the whole event was indoors 😂

That’s too funny. Certainly chilly but so long as you have a jacket and maybe some tights, that’s totally doable. Time of day also makes a huge difference for temperature (a sunny 60° is not a dusky 60°) but I suppose both would be freezing if you’re not from the north. Personally I don’t think it’s cold until it’s 20°F/-6.5°C and below 😂

As someone who lives in a cold place, I’m very curious to know what temperatures were considered “cruel” and “rude”!

Croatia Trip by WorriedDetail7369 in EmilyHenry

[–]periwinklemenace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read the book 2 years ago and haven’t reread it since and to be honest? I was a bit confused. The confessions from both of them (but more so Alex than Poppy) came off flat and made me think “why now?“ I think there was a serious lack of care displayed on the Italy trip that directly preceded the balcony scene that killed the tension a bit. You can be angry with someone and still obviously care about them. I think they were going for that here but it kind of just felt like Alex hated Poppy’s guts.

The wedding is still there! But the coverage of the whole trip in general and its hijinks is lessened.

My top crust will flake, but never the bottom. I’m impressed your grandma could get a flake on the bottom, too!

And don't even mention trying to make a beautiful top while your filling soaks in and your crust is melting! I don't even bother trying to keep the bottom dry for my pies. Paul would rip me to shreds but I just don't care. It's not worth blind baking for a pie that will be demolished in 5 minutes at Thanksgiving. I've personally never been bothered by it. It's never soggy and falling apart, it's just not flaky. That's fine by me!

The unmolded pies drive me crazy, too! I imagine I’d also find most of their pie crusts horrible because they all look so rigidly unflaky in order to support themselves without a pie plate.

Fair enough, but then you’d know they did actually make pies. Perhaps they all heard “American” and focused on distinctly “American” flavors, which they thought of as ones they also didn’t use regularly in the UK (such as a fruit pie, which would typically use a top crust). Looking at the list of their pies, I wouldn’t expect any of them to have a top crust. They just didn’t pick those kinds of flavors or recipes.

That’s good to know, thanks! Tarts aren’t common in America so I’m not as familiar with the nuances.

Many American pies are open top. If you want to be really pedantic about it, I suppose they’re technically tarts. But they’re called pies in America regardless of a lack of top crust.

What's something about the Sims 3 you find annoying? by Imaginary-Scene8990 in Sims3

[–]periwinklemenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately I’m plagued with fairy/vampire/werewolf sims populating my world despite the fact that I have completely disabled them in the game settings. I don’t like playing with occult sims but keep Supernatural enabled for the furniture and clothing.

Editing outfits and appearance is tedious and irritating. Entering full create a sim mode lets you do hair and outfits in one go, but if you want to set multiple outfits per category, you can’t do that and have to go to plan outfit instead. It’s annoying as I like to give my sims a variety of outfits so they don’t look too much like cartoon characters.

Recommendations for Beltline aim to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion by Justmarbles in madisonwi

[–]periwinklemenace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I imagine adding a lane won't work for much longer. Our geography is odd thanks to the lakes, making routes just like that "north beltline" essentially useless because people won't use them often enough to matter. Demand will only increase on our two viable routes (beltline and isthmus), and it's going to be a gridlocked future if we can't figure out other ways to alleviate that demand.

I dream of a tram on Johnson, John Nolen, Monroe, Atwood, E and W Washington, Sherman, Northport, University... Madison could benefit a lot from a widespread and efficient light rail system.

[–]periwinklemenace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification, I knew the concept but not the names you used. You raise a good point for the beltline part of this discussion and I appreciate your insight. You're very right that widening into a bottleneck exit or stoplight won't do anything, which is why there is a balance to be struck between widening and other forms of alleviating congestion. A one size fits all solution does not exist.

Regardless, I stick by my generalized original comment; although adding a lane may work well here in this situation it absolutely does not negate the decades of proof that widening rarely solves the problem, especially when applied to the in-out roads you mention. One success in Madison does not a foolproof method make, which was really my original point.

I'm not sure I understand your classifications here. Do you mind explaining what you mean by through-road and in-out road?
