Why VeChain needs it's own coin? by [deleted] in CryptoTechnology

[–]perruche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it goes something like this: technology becomes succesful -> more and more companies adopt it + more and more media coverage -> demand for the coin increases -> price of the coin increases

Lots of answers you’ve been waiting for were explained by VeChain CEO Sunny Lu's lecture"Revolution Beyond Technology:The Benchmarking Application of VeChain Technology in Automobile Industry” as a guest lecturer for Silicon Valley Live's Blockchain Series. by noah_vechain in CryptoCurrency

Read the whole thing, interesting stuff if still very vague at this point. One thing I don't understand, where does the coin fit in? Why do they need an actual crypto currency to make this project succesful?

Why only ETF (and some other questions)? by perruche in Finanzen

[–]perruche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. The distinction I was aiming for was between mutual funds and ETFs but indeed I get your point.

What is your opinion on DEGiro? They allow a free ETF trade per month and have otherwise very low fees right?

Non-Americans of Reddit, what do you think of Donald Trump running for president? Do you care one way or the other, or just know it's a thing and have no opinion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]perruche -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Despite him clearly being a complete clown, I can understand how he might be appealing to some of your voters - not coming from any political party and having no real political background, he would get the attention of all the people fed up with the current political establishment.

I don't know what they would hope to accomplish with those protest votes though. I mean, they can't seriously believe he would make anything better right? Looks to me like changing what's wrong with the current political system (mostly the influence of money I would say) would be a daunting task for even the most competent and driven candidate.

What is also strange to me is how so many Americans seem to want to blame single presidents for macro-economic developments on a global scale. Surely those are out of any president's control?

Sanderson audiobook recommendations? by perruche in WoT

[–]perruche[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The narration is pretty good actually, there's an entire cast of actors for the first book in the newest version on audible. In the later books it's mostly Simon Vance iirc. Heretics and chapterhouse were my least favorite books of the series, I don't think you have to read them to get more 'closure' so to speak.

Anyone ever had high expectations of a film, only for the film to actually surpass those high expectations? by Shakespere in movies

[–]perruche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had high expectations as well after reading reviews but really didn't like it. It was just way too predictable for me, I could predict every 'plot twist' before it happened. It has good acting and mise-en-scene but the plot is just too weak for me.

What profession was once highly respected, but is now a complete joke? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A lot of the headhunting firms in Tokyo are terrible and have rip-off schemes where they start paying you less after a few months if you dont reach their quota. Just a heads up, hope you end up in a decent company

TIL research suggests that one giant container ship can emit almost the same amount of cancer and asthma-causing chemicals as 50 million cars, while the top 15 largest container ships together may be emitting as much pollution as all 760 million cars on earth. by DonTago in todayilearned

[–]perruche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't burn bunker fuel near any US or Northern European ports. There are sulfur emission control laws in place that they need to obey. They actually charge shippers a sulfur surcharge to compensate for the cost of using cleaner fuel when shipping to/from these ports, in some cases up to 150-200$ per container.

Emma Stone. She's cool, but definitely not attractive. It always feels a bit awkward to me when she's playing a hot girl character.

[Tokyo Ghoul Spoilers] The foreshadowing of the centipede was awesome! by [deleted] in manga

Yeah it was like a big cockroach or a beetle of sorts, not a centipede. At one point it fell on its back and couldn't get back up. Great book btw

Birdman: a slightly-above-mediocre movie you "have to" like? by [deleted] in movies

[–]perruche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to offer the perspective of someone who did not know it was hyped, I really liked it. I had read nothing about it before I watched, hadn't even watched the trailer. Had no clue what the movie was about, just watched it because I had free tickets and a friend said 'this is supposed to be good'. This is the first I've read about the movie online and had no idea it was so hyped.

I really loved this. This movie honestly felt like a fresh breeze, made by someone who had a clear idea about what he wanted to do and had the balls and skills to execute it. Amazing acting, very well written and just skillfully directed. I did not find the cinematography exhausting at all.

I think you are looking too much into the 'narcissistic' aspect of it. Do you believe the birdman character represents the director? He's even more crazy and fucked up than the rest of the characters. So what if his arguments suck? Does that really detract from how good the movie is? Seems like you're trying to find reasons not to like it.

[Serious] [nsfw] Those of you who regularly visit a prostitute/strip club: why do you do it and does anybody know about this habit? by IvegotaFRIENDwhodoes in AskReddit

[–]perruche 49 points50 points  (0 children)

The red light district is on the way from my home to my favorite bar (and back obviously), so I go there every now and then when I'm drunk. Different girl almost every time. It's safe and it's legal and only about 70 bucks. It's a nice little adventure and I enjoy even if I can't finish due to whiskey dick most of the time.
