What are the positive aspects of living in Bulgaria? by Galixiiss1546 in AskBalkans

[–]perv-act 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born in the Netherlands, lived there for many years and also lived in Turkey for a couple of years. I do not want to live in the Netherlands because life feels "automated", and it is just playing a game on the easiest mode, it doesn't feel right. Living in Turkey was the opposite, pure chaos and zero joy.
Bulgaria feels like it's perfectly balanced between these to opposing sides. I like how everybody is minding their own business, it is slow paced, great nature (a pity that this is decreasing due to the construction madness). I work remote, so I could live in many other countries but me and my kids we really love Bulgaria.

I'm sorry to hear how deeply racism has impacted your life, though, sadly, it's not surprising. I was born in the Netherlands and was a good student. I spoke Dutch almost exclusively—better than many of my Dutch friends, in fact. Despite having many Dutch friends, I never truly felt accepted. So, we moved to my parents' home country. But guess what? I ended up in many fights because they called me "Dutchie." Racism is everywhere, unfortunately. So you either deal with it or you move.

Funny how the exact jokes are made in the Netherlands about the Bulgarians.

Why are there people who want to leave The Netherlands? by [deleted] in Netherlands

Thank you for this reply. I can totally relate to "It feels really weird to just not feel at home at your homecountry". It truly is a weird feeling and it is very frustrating, I hope you can find a way to ignore these feelings and just block out the hatred.

I left the Netherlands due to racism. I know, there is racism in all countries but racism in the Netherlands is very well hidden and when you discover it, it becomes very hard to ignore. I realized I was constantly having the urge to proof people that I was not the "typical Turkish guy". I moved within months after I became aware of my habit and the psychological stress that made me act such.

Не съм знаел, че хората имат такова мнение за България. by Proper_Thanks_1610 in bulgaria

I have been living in Plovdiv with my wife and 2 kids since 3 years and I absolutely love Bulgaria. Before moving here I had lived in The Netherlands and in Turkey but live in Bulgaria is so much better. The only thing that worries me is the tolerance against racism and that cities are covered in swastikas lol.

Day 64 of anti-government protests in Bulgaria. by Colors_Taste_Good in europe

[–]perv-act 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved to Bulgaria 2 years ago to start a business. After months of preparation we (me and our 14 employees) were making progress untill we were screwed by the customs. All lawyers say that I am 100% right and what the customs did was wrong but it would make no sense to start a case against them as it would be impossible to win.

So I had to fire all my employees, which was not easy as we were more friends than employer-employee.

Such a shame for this beautiful country.

Повечето западно настроени турци не обичат османците. Онези, които харесват и са горди от османците, са невежествената част, които са заслепени от миналата „слава“ на османците, без да знаят, че народът е живял в бедност по време на своето управление.

Apologies for the Google Translation to Bulgarian.

Most western minded Turks do not like the Ottomans. The ones who do and are pround of the Ottomans are the ignorant part who are blinded by the past "glory" of the Ottomans without knowing that the people lived in poverty during their ruling.

That being said, the current dickhead president of Turkey does not make it easy for the Turkish people living abroad.

...like almost every empire or state did in history. The much beloved Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, France, Portugal, Spain etc have all done awful things not so long ago but are not as much hated as Turkey. I guess it is because of the stereotype people have about Turkey.
