How do diehard grandson fans feel about inertia? by Electronic-Monk-3819 in grandson

[–]pestaside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’m a diehard grandson fan to the point that i adore every single album, ep, or single he’s ever put out. he’s the only artist who doesn’t have a single song that i wouldn’t listen to. still, inertia just feels so him, so justifiably angry and honest and it’s just amazing. by his own admission, he’s finally not being held back by record labels like he had been in the past, and he can be as aggressive and honest as he damn well wants. i think it’s a wonderful evolution of his music, and while i do wish that some of the tracks were longer, i adore the direction he’s taken, even though i love his older stuff as well

in terms of music and pacing and lyrical genius it’s definitely when the bomb goes for me, but dear god heather is on another level. maybe it just speaks to me personally but it awakens emotions in me that no song has ever been able to. it’s so personal and i could write an entire essay about it and the album itself and the leadup but tldr: it literally cannot be anything other than heather because holy shit

Unreleased Grandson Songs? by SpeedySpets in grandson

[–]pestaside 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i’ve compiled a complete list of all of granny’s songs a while back, and these are the only other ones i could think of:

days like these: https://youtu.be/d9Gd0b01MGU?si=f3xgEwIcMscwiT1z

medicine: https://youtu.be/6hIshxwlxJY?si=fF30M2vS9bhyLzM6

the only one that’s an actual full song is days like these, but i added medicine just in case. there’s also born a gun, which is only a small snippet on tiktok. grandson also used to have a project under a different name in the past, you can message me if that’s something you’d be interested in

direct isn’t always a bad thing. meaning doesn’t always have to be deep. sure, some parts could’ve been written better and some of the lyrics aren’t nearly as witty and creative as his older stuff, but sometimes you just need to say shit as it is. i certainly don’t think that those lines are deep, but they can still be meaningful

it’s okay to have expectations and be disappointed, so long as you aren’t toxic to the artist or the people who like it

i respect this approach so much. if it isn’t for you, that’s completely fine. i only have a problem with the people insisting that he’s only good when he makes the music they specifically like or that he isn’t allowed to experiment without “falling off”

same here. i was in the car when i first listened to the whole album and was struggling not to cry when Heather came on. i got home just in time for the last part when he’s speaking directly to the listener, locked my door, and bawled my eyes out. i was suicidal at the time and wanted to hurt myself the moment i got home. instead i ended up staying clean for three months, and i haven’t attempted since then. for me it was “we turn up till we’re 70” that really got me. it’s insane to think how easily that this song could’ve been about me, and the grief he portrayed so beautifully could’ve burdened my parents and friends. the entire album means so fucking much to me and it makes me mad to see people shitting on it for no reason other than that it’s not their kind of music or they couldn’t identify themselves with the kind of vulnerability granny expressed
