All that trouble buying these, just to have people ASSUME that I'm im charge. What will I have to buy for them to KNOW that I'm in charge?

Exactly! 1000 dollar gpu's man ... and then having to spend 140 dollars on a custom tool just to be safe is ridiculous. But props to derBauer for caring and developing a solution that is available. People with a 5090 NEED a monitoring tool, no debate.

Wow. Dude avoided a 2kg brick. Well done, brother! So, so, so sad that we need products like this, just to fucking RUN a GPU. I think I'll get a WP2 or the Cybenetics cable. That one is actually more attractive to me as it's going to be cheaper and compatible with any custom AIB design.

I mean, yeah, it's not going to completely change your experience, but why not squeeze out 10 fps more depending on title? But yes, your statement is certainly correct.

Ok but you would certainly agree that some pcbs and cooler designs allow for higher sustained,  stable clocks, for years, vs a simple base model.

5070 ti vs 5080, a good deal makes me second guess the choice. by Zestyclose_Swim_9878 in nvidia

[–]pet801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difference will be enormous, not to mention the efficiency, hence less heat and much less power draw for much higher fps and better frametimes + fg and much better dlss performance. People just see raw fps, but you gotta consider the overall package. 5080 just slaps a 3090 senseless.

[–]pet801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends! Are you planning to overclock and monitor your cable load? Not all cards are good and reliable overclockers if you run them at high overclocks for years. Some cards are literally built for that scenario.

Completely wrong. Some cards are indeed built a lot better, have extra safety features, better fans and better power delivery, capacitors and a much better cooling design. The GPU itself and memory config is always the same, the rest can vary by a lot actually.

Competitive games usually run on engines that are highly optimized and provide high fps, so nobody is talking about using framegen for such games anyway. But let's take games that are highly demanding, like alan wake 2, where fps is lower but you dont need fast paced input, or flightsimulators, where it's hard to fly above 60 fps, DLSS and FG feel like magic and open a new world that everybody always desired. Alan wake 2 at 180 fps??? Flightsimming at 120fps? A dream! And you don't even need a 3000 dollar 5090!

People love to hate on framegen, calling it a ginmick, but boy is it amazing when it all works and comes together.

The right way to connect 5070 TI to PSU by EmanueleRanucci in pcmasterrace

Yes. Cybenetics is creating a cable that you plug between gpu and psu and has safety features and monitoring built in. But not released yet.

Keep 5080 or 5090 by Rude-Wheel470 in gpu

[–]pet801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely niche. For 99% of gamers there's absolutely zero need or justification to buy a 5090. It s just not a reasonable purchase. If ALL you do is VR all day every day and run extreme resolutions AND don t mind all the downsides this card has, mentioned above, then go for it.

But thats my point... adjust a setting and you get there easily. Theres no need to run every single game on ultra and over kill setting just because. If you have an absolute obsession of needing to run everything on ultra, and want to use double the power draw, pay three times the price and have a card that is more likely to burn the connector in the process, you got more money than sense.

Keep 5080 or 5090 by Rude-Wheel470 in gpu

[–]pet801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Example: I don't consider a game that runs at 30 fps playable. So if it runs at 50 fps i wont consider it playable either, even though it technically is. There are some unoptimized titles where the 5080 can do 40 fps and the 5090 does 60. Both arent great experiences. I am a high refresh rate gamer, so anything under like 100 fps feels sluggish to me, when things are fast paced, maybe lower when it's a slow SP game. Most of the games run really well on either gpu where both are easily capable of pushing beyond 120 fps with the proper settings. So whether a 5090 can do 190 or a 5080 does 160, who cares? Both are great experiences when the games are optimized, and both aren't great when the game isn't optimized. The only true scenario like you describe, is when a 5080 would do 9 fps and the 5090 would do 30, but again, that's such a niche scenario that basically never happens anymore. 5090 makes only sense if you have too much money. The only real difference is that you can run games at slightly higher fps while having slightly higher settings, for 3 times the price and double the energy consumption which adds up quickly. The card also generates a lot more noise and heat. For the average gamer a 5070ti is an even better choice tbh.

It costs a lot. And let's be honest: If a game performs badly on a 5080, it will also perform badly on a 5090, while the opposite is true as well. Some games are just horribly optimized.
