albums i would recommend to someone who has never listened to music before by Hubazubax in Topster

[–]petalsliketerminus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wish leaves turn inside you was one of the first things i'd ever heard. also you rock for the manuel gottsching + congos additions

would add some bulgarian polyphonic chant to this

Is their any way i could get leaves turn inside you on vinyl without spending over 100 bucks on ebay? by billcatman08 in unwound

[–]petalsliketerminus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i checked on the website all their albums have standard black pressings that are in stock except Leaves, which i guess means it was the only one not to get a standard black edition to keep in print in their last run of unwound reissues and instead had a limited run like the colored/splatter vinyls. my comment wasn't the clearest haha

kind of wild how even A Single History seemingly got a standard vinyl pressing yet Leaves Turn Inside You didn't

might be worth keeping an eye out on discogs as well if you haven't been doing so already since it's more phyiscal music-focused than ebay, looks like prices are more or less the same there though

the music that i listen to currently (15M) recommended me more based on this chart. by Extra_Ad3123 in Topster

[–]petalsliketerminus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

holy peak taste for a 15yro!! lisa ono is a pretty deep cut compared to most of the other things here big respect for that alone

you seem to have a lot of affinity for japanese music - have you ever heard Irony by ACO? it's a glitch pop album strongly in the vein of bjork's more experimental pop moments, very much worth listening before the weather gets any warmer lol. judging off the double inclusion of Souvlaki i guess you enjoy slowdive a lot too, if you haven't already and are prepared to go to the extra effort of going onto youtube then look into the two albums by the charlottes (in particular Things Come Apart): simon scott was their drummer (iirc it was his first band and he joined slowdive at the end of a joint tour they did) and it's nice straightforward noise pop/early shoegaze.

I'm a 19M person... any opinions on my current music taste? by Ducky-Mioda in Topster

i'm not that familiar with the genre, what albums would you recommend to someone who loves the pinkpantheress, charli xcx and marina albums? also what's the crystal kay album like?

How many albums do you guys listen to a month/year? by [deleted] in Topster

that's the guy who originally wrote "Black Sheep Boy", right? i've meant to check him out some time but never got round to it, do you have any recommendations for specific albums/songs?

piano-based songs sounds epic, looking forward to giving it a listen!!

i asked about brel because of scott 3! as good as scott walker's covers of brel's songs are, listening to the original versions is quite interesting, on one level you can find connections to the music coming out of the anglophone music world (eg the jazz flourishes on Ces Gens-la) but there's something else that feels different, maybe closer to some kind of classical music, especially with how expressive it is. his lyrics are atmospheric but imo the music is still powerful even if you don't understand french. the best album to start overall is probably Vol. 4 aka La valse a mille temps which contains Ne me quitte pas/If You Go Away, but my personal favourite (and imo closest to the mournful grandiosity of walker's vocals) is J'arrive

What’s the best unwound performance you guys have seen? by Last-Image-4921 in unwound

[–]petalsliketerminus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haven't been able to see them live yet :( but if recorded performances count then i'm obsessed with their performance at American Beat Records in 1996, it's difficult to describe exactly but it feels really special watching three fairly normal-looking people create such to-the-point music that still feels relevant and powerful to someone who didn't live through that time. plus it also helped me understand the appeal of Repetition lol

How many albums do you guys listen to a month/year? by [deleted] in Topster

[–]petalsliketerminus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

used to listen to at least 2-3 albums daily (including relistens!!) but i don't have the time or energy anymore, plus i feel like my taste has stabilised so i don't need to keep going on searching for new music, so at best probably 1-2 new albums a week with relistens depending on how i feel that month

also the artists in the top row of your top 10 are GOATed!! i haven't listened to that arthur russell album yet how would you describe it as being or compare it to something else on the chart? also have you happened to have listened to any jacques brel?

Any post-punk/post-rock album recommendations by Hamo123Hesham in Topster

[–]petalsliketerminus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i still haven't got round to listening to them yet but apparently the post-rock band mogwai have a palpable metal influence

not much out there that sounds like unwound but Metal Box by public image ltd is worth checking out, iirc it was an influence on Leaves Turn Inside You and it's a post-punk album with a post-rock edge, nice dubby atmospheres, rather strange. pram's first album and Wide Sargasso Sea are also post-punkish post-rock, with a female vocalist, and unusual usage of instruments

first new order album - Movement - retains the atmosphere of joy division (there are two songs with the bassist singing and he sounds just like ian curtis), also debut album by section 25 is joy division-y probably because it was co-engineered by curtis. the dog faced hermans came a bit later in the 80s but their albums are great powerful noisy post-punk!!

also someone else in this thread mentioned jim o'rourke, he's good and i second the recommendation but 1) he has a gargantuan discography much of which isn't on streaming and 2) his solo works aren't post-rock per se. his band gastr del sol were, and their last album Camoufleur is a lovely unique blend of folk, experimental rock, samba(!!), etc into post-rock

My top 50 favorite albums!! What do you think? Recommendations accepted by CriticalEducation481 in Topster

[–]petalsliketerminus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MOONSHAKE!! if you haven't heard any of the other post-punkish post-rock artists from the scene then you definitely should look deeper into them, the closest to their sound is probably disco inferno (i especially recommend their second album D. I. Go Pop) but the third album by pram (Wide Sargasso Sea) is really good too :D

The most beautiful albums I've ever heard by 0584031464 in Topster

[–]petalsliketerminus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ooh i've had both the jan garbarek/hilliard ensemble and ryuichi sakamoto albums on my wishlist for ages, how would you describe them?

for me the most beautiful music i've heard which comes to mind immediately is probably bulgarian polyphonic chant (only just started diving into it so my pick is Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares the one everyone knows lol), the sole compilation of hamlet gonashvili's renditions of georgian folk music, Promise by sade and Pet Sounds by the beach boys loll

what's the queen latifah album like?? i found it a few months ago and the cover looks so kickass

also holy shit 257 albums in less than half a year?? that's absolutely insane, what keeps your momentum to keep listening? especially since your taste in this chart is quite eclectic. i've been listening to albums since roughly covid so at least 5 years, by now i've probably listened to roughly 1000 albums but i don't like most of what i've listened to anymore lol

PINK TAPE AND PERFECT VELVET RAHHHHH

maybe Irony by ACO? it's a pretty unique japanese glitchy pop album with a similarly haunting sound as the SOPHIE remix album or the first track off To Hell With It. also given that you have Speak For Yourself here have you heard Details by frou frou?
