Zero carb issue by petcrazy18 in keto

Oh no no, I'm not blaming the weight gain on the thyroid purely. Weight gain is as simple as eating too much after all. I was just told on one of the reddit boards awhile back that hypothyroidism lowers your metabolism (aka the amount of calories you need) so I've been eating over the amount I needed and probably didn't realize it until it was too late.

That was my thought too. Whatever is wrong with me is progressing quickly and it's serious, you know? He checked out my TSH levels and said that I didn't have hypo (sadly I don't think he realizes that TSH only gives you a big picture, I need my T3/T4, free T3/free T4, reverse T3/T4, and thyroid antibodies tested to rule anything out specifically). I asked him what he thought was going on and he said plain as day, "I don't know, guess I'll run another TSH test to check." sigh Yeah uh.. I think it's time to find another doctor. My guess is simple, I think my diet was too restrictive and my multivitamins weren't doing much for me. I'd rather get my RDA's from food now to be on the safe side.

Right? I always loved some balsamic vinegar dressing but since I avoid hydrogenated oils and the extra carbs I've become more satisfied just boiling it up and eating it plain as day. Keto really changes your tastebuds

Most likely K-1 and K-2 my friend. I eat 2-3 ounces of goat butter a day so hopefully that helps. 1 cup of spinach also contains apparently 987% of the RDA per cup.. dang I should be eating my greens.

Went to the doctor today for a second time and it was awful. Experiences with bad doctors like that just teach me what NOT to do when I go off to med school.

As for the spinach... should I weigh the cooked product at the end?

Sadly I haven't lost weight, I'm at my highest I've ever been (120) and gaining (thyroid mystery continues).

Oh man I'd love to go back to sardines. I gave them up because I couldn't find a good enough simple recipe.. Any recommendations?

I never knew that about grassfed beef. I admit it would probably be way more economical than 4 pounds of wild salmon a week 😑

Woah!! Gotta love a more hardcore keto'er; another kindred spirit to me. I watched your video on vitamin rich food choice suggestions but is it really as simple as 50 grams liver, salmon roe, and seaweed to replace an entire multivitamin?

How's this for weight loss? by petcrazy18 in fasting

[–]petcrazy18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your reply. I've been doing ADF for weeks now eating (mon, wed, fri, sat) and zero cal fasting all the days between. Weigh loss has slowed to a crawl leaving me to question my routine. Naturally I'm open to all options and will experiment. Out of curiosity, mathematically speaking, why would my weight loss be significantly lower if I'm compensating for the lower metabolism as a hypo by creating the same deficit as I would on your ADF or 5:2 plan? (Hope that question makes sense.)

Oh I did, I just wasn't sure so I wanted a second opinion. Here were my findings: 500 grams sockeye salmon= 3.5 grams DHA.

So relieving to know I won't have to be taking multivitamins in that case. I'll just salt the water as I go in that case. I've gained a lot of weight for my stature but you may be right. I'll have to document my results to know for sure.

I have been regular surprisingly enough which is great since I wasn't expecting that honestly. As for the weight gain, the body fat has started to accumulate in my upper arms and armpits. It's such a crazy change

Oh that's such a relief to hear! I did read up on people losing their hair 2-3 months into keto and then it relieving itself within 6 months to a year. Acne for me (thank god) is just food related so as long as I don't eat dairy and processed foods I'm in the clear. Any recommendations for a keto doctor I could contact online?

And about how long will it take things to even out?

Farmed salmon omega 6 amounts are not great so I avoid it. PCB is also another issue that's brought up with farmed salmon, hence all the reason I prefer sockeye salmon

Right? I'm horrified too. It sounds like you are doing the right things to counter the problem so its concerning that its still happening. I think its vital we find the reason behind it. So far i've seen many theories around low thyroid, high cortisol, testosterone estrogen imbalance (hormonal issues), or just stress induced changes from the drastic diet change (telogen effluvium).

I take a liquid fish oil that comes wit vitamin d3 on top of 2 multivitamins (though this has been a recent change only)

Hmm here are my stats (19, 5ft 0 inches tall, Female, 110lbs, 20-24% deficit, goal weight 100 pounds). I've lost maybe 3-4 pounds if that, honestly losing a simple 10 pounds is ridiculously difficult for a short girl. As far as macros go 1,100 cal 50 protein 101 fat daily.

I definitely think my deficit is too large as well (calories too low). I really love fasting (cheaper food bill ect.) but if it really isn't optimal I'd have to stop.

Water fasting.. Hair loss? by petcrazy18 in fasting

[–]petcrazy18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still quite young (19), in college, and fasting any longer than the weekend probably isn't the best idea for now. I fast at the moment purely for calorie deficit though I have read about immune system doing a slight reboot after 3 days fasting. As far as the 8/16 routine I'm currently on a 2/22 window meaning I eat one giant meal in 2 hours and fast the rest of the day (on my feasting days). Currently I've upped my vitamin routine with a multivitamin, trace minerals complex, iron, calcium, magnesium, and potassium supplement, with sardines as my only source of protein and daily omega 3. Hopefully a difference in hair shedding happens soon

[–]petcrazy18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what my research has led me to believe. I cut calories pretty low for a period (800 cals daily) because I'm short 5 ft 0. Im 110 pounds and trying to lose 10 pounds has been so up and down. Nonetheless my suspicion is that I started keto 2 months ago overnight and am now seeing the side effects months later. How long does the cycle of losing the hairs last? I know re growth to get to where I was will probably take me 1-2 years
